- Garbage collection

Jesus, split some more hairs.

Oh yeah, and fata the word "sustainable". It's the biggest BS word of the 21st century.
Alright. So.

You feel that the status quo is perfectly acceptable and reasonable and will never change?

Not one more person will leave Calgary for the surrounding communities but maintain Calgary as their primary place of employment?

Is that a contention with which you would agree?

EDIT: Oh, and you might want to ask her how she manages 150 km/hour on average. With a stop light or two she has to be hitting 200 plus at some point in her commute.
Yeah. Its about 45 minutes if you get really good traffic. Otherwise its about an hour plus.

That at least makes sense, the math shows what - 75 km/hour average? (Speeding maybe, hehe)

Heh yeah. I'm in bed for at least another hour if not more. It all boils down to 10 minutes of commute = at least 2 weeks of vacation EVERY year.

Well Calgary's problem is two-fold. Not only do we subsidize non-residents in bedroom communities, we also subsidize new developments on the fringes of the city within the ever-expanding city limits. Places like Seattle and San Francisco that are bordered by geographic barriers and other municipalities have to deal with the first but not with the second.

Only takes me 30 minutes in the morning and on the way back from Forest Lawn.

Well, that's a boring debate.

"I hate paying fees"

Debating who is a scum sucking parasite is a lot more fun!

And, fwiw, the Deerfoot is a provincial road, so the majority of the driving the parasites do within Calgary involves roads they actually help pay for.

Not true, I live in Calgary and I am for the park and ride fees. Mainly to see the reaction of people saying I support genocide and toll roads, but I support the fees.

I think a monthly pass is a better option for the Park and Ride from an environmental perspective. Basically you would pay up front for the usage of the parking lot and you would want to use it as much as possible to get your money's worth.

Like a poster mentioned, to somewhat mitigate for this, Calgarians should really be going more to these neighbouring towns and utilizing some of their services. I think the big thing we as Calgarians can take advantage of are the hospitals and clinics in these bedroom communities since wait times in Calgary are so bad. At least this way we can spread it out a bit more.

I already do this. High River hospital FTW!

As for use or underuse, it really depends on which route, and what time of day. There's different types of routes: mainline (examples 2, 3, 20), express (examples 133, 179, 116), feeder (examples 16, 22, 55), special shuttle (examples 502, 506), BRT (301, 302, 305), and community shuttle (examples 429, 440, 456).

I believe what you're asking about are feeder routes or community shuttles. Some are actually quite popular while others barely see any use.
Yup I was asking about community shuttles like 456 and 453 out west. It seemed to me that before the $3 park and ride charge, people would just race their cars out there before 7am, park for free and then take the bus. Since most people taking the bus have bus passes anyways, a $3 park and ride charge would have lessened the 'race' to park for free and people would use community shuttles that takes them to the same park and ride anyways and save the $3 and the hassle of finding a parking spot.

This is what I assumed would have happened, am I way off base?

Well considering Forest Lawn was it's own town in the 1900's and Calgary was pretty much built around Forest Lawn I'd consider Calgary the parasite city to Forest Lawn.

Wouldn't that just make Forest Lawn a vestigial organ/community/slum? I wouldn't exactly call them symbiotic.

Forest Lawn is not a parasite community. Unlike Okotoks, they have valuable services to offer Calgarians. Where else would we go to find payday loan shops, pawn shops, porn shops and liquor stores?
