I dunno, I would assume we could've cut color-pigment costs by going all white.

More likely to do with the costs of applying the white paint. Maybe the LaCaille Group can spring for the paint job.

Couldn't we just get some of the mis-tints at home depot for this bridge? So much for Nenshi being a fiscal conservative!

Ok, here is my take on this bridge and why many are ticked off.

And ok bigtime, yeah, it was provincial money. But when that money was given to the city of Calgary, and the decision by council was made to build this bridge, I think many Calgarians lost complete confidence in their council that they could identify the top infrastructure needs of the city. Calgary has been playing catch up and will continue playing catch up on its infrastucture needs for decades.

I don't think it is so much the actual bridge, or the design of the bridge, or even the architect chosen for the bridge, but more about the process and not identifying the top infrastructure needs of the city. It is seen as excess in times when infrastructure needs are many.

Pshhhh, being upset whether they are building it or not is so 2009. Now we get upset about the color.

An out of towner complaining about a downtown footbridge. What's the matter? We didn't build you enough overpasses yet?

If you are asking me, I never said it was not.

What are the top 10 infrastructure needs in the city of Calgary? If this bridge was one of them at the time the money was received, then council did a piss poor job of relaying that fact to the citizens of Calgary.

Again, citizens lost all confidence in their council with this decision, and it put their discontent over the edge.

I still don't see why we couldn't have ordered a ferry to get people across the river.

Or a zipline.

I wanted a zipline from the calgary tower to the top of the center street bridge. Unfortunately, council didn't agree and instead blew 25 mil of a stupid foot bridge.

And by the way, where did I complain? I gave my take on the matter and offered my view as to why this bridge ticked so many off.

Relax. I'm putting about three threads in a nutshell with that sarcastic comment.

The reality is, most of those people were re-elected, so obviously the small minority who opposed the bridge were exactly that, a minority.

The bridge is being built, deal with it. The only thing we can complain about right now is that the inside isn't going to be a vibrant white colour, but a red. The problem is it will hide bloodstains, making the bridge a magnet for our inner city crime problem.

Down with the red bridge!

Or maybe it wasnt the be all end all issue for most voters. I really doubt its a small minority in opposition.
