Liberals....truly are a different breed. Born that way says this study!
Not sure what this proves if anything, but for some reason it was kind of funny to read that anyone would even study it to begin with.
Quote:
"These findings suggest that political affiliation is not based solely on the kind of social environment people experience,” Fowler said. "This is the first study to elaborate a specific gene-environment interaction that contributes to ideological self-identification, and it highlights the importance of incorporating both nature and nurture into the study of political preferences
there is a fascinating ted talks on youtube about the difference between libs and cons. nature can only go so far tho, nurture defitnely has a huge role.

People with university degrees do tend to be more liberal than the average population... so you would think that genetics does play, at least, a small role.
Not saying that nature doesn't play some role in our politics, but to try to define it along modern ideological definitions is just ridiculous. The whole idea of liberalism is itself only about 400 years old and the term "liberal" comes from the beginning of the 18th century. Pre-modern politics was based around entirely different values and conceptions of the human person and city.

Seriously, this is why I get so upset when people tend to mishmash political definitions when they really only have a basic understanding of the theory and philosophy of politics. The guy conveniently gets his definition on liberalism and conservatism from some unnamed political scientist he found on the web and then embarks upon an amazing exercise in confirmation bias. Wow, that was awful.

What is this I don't even...why am I against tendancy again?
I've gone the other way. I started more liberal during the start of my university degree...but I'm more conservative than ever now.

I don't know if I totally believe that, especially in a Canada where so many people go to University now.
I think its less about education and more about preformed values.

I agree with this, almost everyone I am still friends with from High School has a university education, and every single one has the same political leanings as they did pre-university. Which wasn't that long ago being only 25.
