Ah man, the good old days. Renting Mega Man 2, and getting stuck on the first Wily level because I was too young and stupid to figure out how to use Item 1 to make that gap.

Renting Bucky O'hare about 20 times trying to make to the Toad ship, and only doing it once. (This game still rocks)

I played so many terrible games that my mom would rent for us, I've lost count of them. Rolling Thunder with the groping ninjas stands out.

1942 was my favorite game.

You are correct.

It was Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link

I also forgot to mention that sometimes we had to push the game all the way to the right because it wouldn't work properly.

Ninja Gaiden was the definition of madness. Nothing made me rage more than those g'damn birds that kept respawning if you just backtracked a mm to recalibrate for a jump. And the continue system and respawn system was ruthless on that game. Thank god for wood framed CRT televisions back then. I would have embedded dozens of controllers into our new sissy flat panel counterparts. Beating that game was my ultimate NES accomplishment. Mega-man on one life was a close second, and I played so much Contra, I had the game pattern literally memorized and could do 1 life pea shooter run throughs.

Best NES game ever though was Metroid. I still run through that game a couple times a year. Somehow that game has stayed absolutely timeless.

There were a lot of really cool lesser known games too. Blaster Master was highly under rated in its day, and only now are people regognizing it as a classic.

I miss the NES days.

I had a subscription to Nintendo power and having to use it to get through games because there was no such thing as the internet yet.

Also there is this movie as well. I remember watching this and seeing Super Mario Bros. 3 for the first time.

My cousin had one. At the time we all thought it was pretty cool, but then, we were only 8. Looking back at it (and watching the AVGN review of it), it really was just a stupid gimmick. It never worked well at all.

Ah so many NES memories, so many great games, so many not so great games.

My list of awesome games:
Zelda 1-2
Super Mario Bros 1-3
Kung Fu
Dragon Warrior 1-3
Final Fantasy
TMNT 2 and 3
Faxanadu
Contra 1-2
Megaman 1-3
Double Dragon 1-3
Ikari Warriors
Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, Wild Gunman
Guardian Legend
Punch Out
Others I probably left out

List of not so great games:
TMNT 1
Xevious
Smash TV
Friday the 13th
Others (can't remember them at the moment)

List of unbelievably hard games:
Ninja Gaiden 1-2
Battletoads
Battletoads vs Double Dragon
Batman (my greatest NES accomplishment was beating this game)

No Nintendo for this gamer. I was a SEGA boy growing up. Never has a Nintendo system been in my home, and never will a Nintendo system be in my home.

That being said, wow, time flies.

I always see NES Contra popping up on hardest game lists, and I don't get that. Sure I played that game with autistic like obsession, but once you get the spread gun on level 1 and then the rapid fire football right after, there is literally no reason to die. That was the gaming worlds first ultra cheap gun. The noob tube of 1987.

I am still able to run through NES Contra without Using the Konami code or any continues.

Absolutely loved River City Ransom.

On another note, anyone ever play a game called "Renegades". I think that was what it was called. Anyways, the arcade game was pretty good, but man did the NES version suck. Same thing with Bad Dudes.

Not sure if serious?

As cool as retro gaming was and still is, the Halo series is one of the greatest gaming franchises of all time. Its just the shreeky, racist 9 year olds in MP that gave it a bad name. The campaigns however, were some best video games ever put together.

I loved my NES. not only did i have that 182 games in 1 cartridge, I actually got the NES diskdrive from Hong Kong. The disks were smaller than a 3.5 and sometimes they would not load so you would just keep pounding on it until the game came up. hehe.

No one grew up on Atari? Yar's Revenge is awesome.
