With the players he has at his disposal this team should be much higher in the table, not top 4 sure, but 7th to 10th. Tactically they are adrift and static. He is not adapting to situations. Why? Don't ask me, I just don't get it.

We can put some blame on the players, certainly. But this team does not look prepared in any way, shape, or form. At Anfield Liverpool would be attacking teams from the off, not sitting back against the likes of Sunderland and Blackpool for cripes sake. It's pitiful.

Roy, nice guy that he is, is not the man for the job. He accepts mediocrity too easily for my liking. Smiling after a defeat like that is ridiculous.

If we wait until January I fear it may be too late.

Imagine the e we'd buy. Don't think NESV will give out money to his successor if they're first taste of spending is Carlton Cole or Zamora and the likes.

Sigh...I thought the tumours were removed. The team, and Roy, better get their $#!^ together.

At the moment I'd bet the axe is so close to Roy's neck that he doesnt even need to shave anymore.

He just has a very poor grasp of tactics and player strengths. Torres is getting zero help.

One thing is true though, some players have to step up, Meireles has more to offer and he hasnt really brought it, Poulson and Konchesky have been crap buys. Lucas isnt even getting a shot anymore and hes actually quite the player. Babel is an enigma but hes not getting opportunities to play to his strengths and finally, you can tell, or at least I can, that the weight of essentially running the entire midfield single-handedly is dragging Stevie down.

Yeah. It's also got to be tough for Henry. He knew what he was getting into to an extent, but there was also a massive public assumption that the off-field issues were getting into everyone's head, and being a factor in the play this season. It's only been one match, but that was just a very poorly played match.

I'm sure John Henry wants to keep immediate changes to the football side at an absolute minimum right now, as it would scream of being....well, Abramovich with less money. It's up to Roy and the players to make sure he doesn't have to make that decision. He really must not want to have to do that.

Rafael Benitez has blamed Liverpool's decline after 2008-09 on the appointment of managing director Christian Purslow.

"The Americans, they chose a new managing director and everything changed. So, what changed?

"The managing director is involved in all the decisions: new lawyer, new chief of press, new manager, nine new players, new medical staff, new fitness coaches - they changed everything.

"At the beginning, they changed the managing director who was talking with some players, and they changed everything that we were doing in the past.

So, if you want to ask again what was going on, it's simple: they changed something and, at the end, they changed everything.

Christian Purslow has stepped down as managing director of Liverpool, but he will continue to advise new owners New England Sports Ventures (NESV) as a non-executive director.

Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will stay on Merseyside when under-pressure Liverpool travel to Italy for Thursday's Europa League tie against Napoli.

With the Reds sitting in the relegation zone after eight games in the Premier League, manager Roy Hodgson has clearly prioritised the weekend's tie against Blackburn Rovers.

So, is Purslow leaving a good thing? Despite the fact that Broughton and Purslow were instrumental in wresting away the club from the Tumors they arent exactly saints themselves. I maintain that it will only be a good thing if a more qualified or experienced managing director is brought in to replace him and run this club better.

Meh. I could honestly care less about the Mickey Mouse Europa Cup thingy. Yeah, winning is nice and all but I'd trade this match in a heartbeat for a win against Blackburn on Sunday.

Liverpool have to get their crap together in the league pronto, otherwise a relegation dogfight is a real possibility. That's, by far, the priority.

I kinda wish the manager had left Reina and Jamie at home too, along with the big two.

This team has to win somewhere. They are winless in 6, they've got to get a result, and while winning in the Mickey Mouse Cup is hardly a huge accomplishment, they just need a 'W' and to keep going on.

A loss and the weight gets heavier and the noose gets tighter. This team needs a win and then to loosen up and move along.

You may have gotten half your wish, they just subbed Carra for the big Greek.

I'm a big fan of our Greek God of War. That guy is an aerial missile. Plus he did in Fellaini last season. That was wicked!

Okay, I think I see what Woy is after.

He pulls Carra for the Greek, and then Konchesky for Aurelio.

Ngog is on the pitch, hes going to win us a free kick and then its going to be Aurelio to Sotirio to Victory.

0-0 is kinda like a win, right? Especially considering the team that was out there.

Onto more important matters.........

Yeah. I was surprised to see Shelvey get a run out.

Where the hell has Dani Pacheco gone? He should have been front and centre for this match.

Purslow was brought in by the Yanks to find minority investment and failed. Thankfully Broughton pulled his head out of his ass and got us NESV.

Purslow was terrible with footballing matters. Rafa has said it, and there are tons of rumours about what he's done.

Look at his last act on the footballing side of things: giving Carragher 90K a week for 2 years. Why the does he deserve anywhere near that? If Carra loves the club he should understand he isn't what he used to be and should take less.

Honestly I think Purslow was Stevie and Carra's bitch, as he's done everything they've asked. The club has more English players, an English manager, Gerrard has more freedom to do ######ed things tactically, and Carra has a manager who listens to him only.

The pair of them are homophobic along with a lot of so called pundits, and it's created a divide at the club. Foreigners vs Englishmen, and the sad thing is that foreigners understand the Liverpool way more than any Englishmen.

Benitez would fight to the death for us and defend anyone of us fans or players and have a go at any club, Hodgson invites pressure, calls out the fans, says no to protests, and says he'd sell Torres to United at the right price. Then you have twats such as Souness selling his autobiography to the S*n on the anniversary of Hillsborough.

Gerrard is always flirting with leaving, whilst Torres pledges his future(except his twilight years) to Liverpool. Alonso, Arbeloa, Garcia, and Reina all love the club and still follow us compared to Owen and McMannaman who played for the club since they were teenagers, and then spit in the face of the club and leave for free or for 10% of their worth and later join the enemy.

Sorry for the rant, but quite simply I'm ecstatic Purslow has gone because right now we need a mediator between the homophobics and the foreigners and I'd be fine with the American fellow that's rumoured to have the job.

Fantastic game. Only 2-1, but the Reds played good enough for it to have been 4 or more. That game plus a bit of finish, and we should calmly walk out of that awful relegation zone we're in.

Supposedly the players had a meeting yesterday, where they told Roy they're not happy with his tactics, and that they want to go back to what they were doing previously. It worked!

Soto and Lucas were absolutely amazing.

Zonal marking FTW!!! :P

Agreed. Zorba was freaking great! And while unspectacular, some of the new guys that haven't had glowing reviews played perfectly alright.

So Roy, just do your best Rafa Benitez impersonation from here on and we should be good to go.
