				I'm coming to Calgary!

			Hey guys,

Don't post a lot on here at all, but always on here reading everyday. Finally going to make the long trip from Australia to Calgary! Recently quit my job which refused to give me time off to come over here, so now no strings attached I will be here! Will be in town Late November and December, Couple of quick questions:

When the Flames are playing away games, where is the best place to watch the game out?

Transport to the Dome, is it easy?

Also any places of interest that might be worth visiting while I'm here would be great!

Go Flames!

			1) Flames Central
2) C-Train. A little cramped at times, but that's to be expected. Don't go by car. Just don't.
3) Banff National Park, West Edmonton Mall if you haven't been there ever (and don't mind being in Edmonton)

I like your enthusiasm, and I love that your coming out to calgary, but you're probably going to get better answers posting this thread in the Off Topic Forum, because that is one of the main reasons why it is there.

But transport to the dome is very easy, watch an away game at Shanks south (again, can just take the C-train), and one thing I would say check out for early december is Banff, the hotsprings with snow all around is pretty cool.

If you can handle being in Edmonton, it's worth visiting once IMO. Just to say you've been there

Edmonton didn't make the list of places to go this time, I thought LA and Vegas were better options.

Thanks everyone for the advice!

I have been to Calgary once back in 2000, one thing I found is the air seems to be hard to breathe if you are not used to it. Like it is thin.

Will be interesting. I am actually considering going to Australia on a travel/working visa. So strange how the seasons are reversed.

Out of curiosity if I was to go through with this trip any places you would recommend seeing and/or things a person should do?

Would offer you more ideas of things to do in Calgary but not really sure(I live in Edmonton...).

Hey man, there has been some solid advice on places to go in the city...
But if you want some really crazy and interesting Calgary places to go here's a great list.

1) This is my favorite, but make sure you head to Tubby Dog on 17th Avenue. It's a throwback era crazy HotDog place. http://www.tubbydog.com/Tubby%20Dog/Menu.html
2) The Ship and Anchor (also on 17th Avenue) is a place for any ex-pat (mostly for Brits and Hipsters), but it is a guaranteed great time. (in walking distance of the Saddledome)

3) If you want to do the cheese ball Cowboy thing, I'd highly recommend Ranchman's on MacLeod Trail. It's a bit out of the way, but it a hysterical look into the cheesy cowboy image of Calgary.

4 & 5) The District Gastro Pub and Broken City are good places if you're in your mid 20s-30s. The District makes their own bacon and does some other crazy food, while Broken City is a fantastic venue for music.

I'm sure others will have a few more favorites to go to, but those are my must see Calgary joints for when my family comes to town.

C-Train is much better than car when you're talking about going to the 'Dome. Unless you get there really early, parking is a major hassle, and can cost anywhere from $10 to $20. Plus, if you get there late, you're parking pretty far from the 'Dome, and have to walk a few minutes outdoors.

The C-Train drops you at the station, and from there, it's a few minutes walk mostly INDOORS to the 'Dome. And a train ticket is only around $2 to $3. Much better deal, IMO.

Calgary Zoo is pretty good, and is actually one of the best zoos I've been to.

Calgary Tower is also nice, although the revolving restaurant is overpriced for what you get in terms of the food.

For steak, either Saltlik or Vintage is good. Chicago Chophouse is also good, but not that much better than the other two I mentioned. And you'd be paying way more.
