For the $85 Shaw plan guys...

When I swich to SportsnetOne channel a little box pops up saying that it's a free preview (goes away after a second or 2). Is this not part of the regular sports package with Shaw?

I get the same thing. I was told by the rep when I got my current deal (two weeks ago) that I get all HD channels "free" for 6 months, and that includes SN1. If they renege, I'm going to call in and bitch. There's also another HD channel called "HD2" or something that has sports games on it, but which I apparently don't get. Oh, and I'm no longer getting the Centre Ice preview as well.

They are willing to replace my PVR with a comparable model (which is an upgrade from the model they told me) when I bring it in.

The biggest problem is I will lose all my programming. I am actually thinking about renting a box for a couple months, recording all my stuff to that box and watching the old content from my old box. When I am done watching the old content, I will trade it in on warranty, watch the shows on the rental box until it is cleared up and then return it. From what the TSR I talked to said, I could probably even get a free rental for that time period.
I'll look into that. This box has transfered ownership so who knows how that will affect the warranty.

So does mine.

I'm on this plan right now. Pretty awesome. And I got this offer while I was already with Telus. Just called them up and talked to retentions.

They told me the HD channels were free for a year, so maybe it will show that 'preview' message for the whole year? I'm sure if it ends it will just be a matter of calling to get it hooked back up, I'll be choked if it's during a game though.

So what channels are included? I'm worried I won't get TSN/Sportsnet in the package

89 channels seems like a lot, but it really isn't.

You have to go here https://www.telus.com/ordertv/index....rPathType=iptv and somehow figure out how to get it to show you the bundles. Don't worry, it will ask for your address 20 times before you are done.

This isn't fully synced with the promo, but the small essentials package is pretty much what you get with the $45. I called them for my mom and IIRC they said you needed to get the large package (152 channels) which is +$42 a month extra in order to get sports. Basicly the promo gives you a certain discount, and then you add the difference in regular price to get a better TV bundle, in this case $65-$23 = $42.

It works out to $87 ($45 + $42) a month for the first year, and it goes up after that by whenever the discount is if you get all 3 services. If you only get 2 services, you only get the discounted rate for 6 months. Then, you have 2 years at the full rate before your contract expires.

Compare that to Shaw, who gives you the same price without a contract for a year, just for calling and telling them Telus has this offer. You do lose the PVR anywhere availability though.

I called Shaw about it and all she'd give me was Movie Central and another PVR...no reduction in price

Did you speak to a regular CSR or did you just ask for retentions right away?

Thank you!

Just mention you have an offer from Telus and you want to see what Shaw can do about matching that price before you cancel.

I have always been a telus phone guy for my land line. Shaw has agreed to give me everything - HDPVR for a year, Extreme, full HD package including the movie channels for $101.00 but I have to take their phone service. Has anyone noticed any differences that I should be aware of (even though I can't think of what would be different)?

Only one I can think of is it required power to work, whereas a pots line does not.

From http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/CustomerCar...pport/FAQs.htm

Quote:
4. Will my telephone service work if there is no power? Shaw's home phone service includes a battery backup device. When this device is connected to the Digital Phone Terminal and the battery is fully charged, it will provide four hours of standby time.

Note
Whether you are using Shaw's home phone service or a traditional phone service, a cordless telephone will not work during a power outage, as the base station requires power to operate.

i am just in their hold queue just now and i thought that i had better ask!

i have to admit that the telus bundles online, while not spooktacular (halloween pun intended hehheh) are not bad.

I posted here about a Telus plan I looked at for my Mom. The cost was $87 for the first year and then

The channel break down is in this pdf, but the basic idea is if you sign up for 3 services for 3 years, the per month price for 1 year is $45 + whatever upgrades you want to your channels. You can only add the channels in the small, medium, large and "your pick" onto the contract price.

After 1 year, the discounts go away and you pay full price for the remaining 2 years, which for the Large TV package bundled with Internet and Phone is $123/month for the most basic phone service, or $162 a month for the fully featured phone service. The internet is 15MBs down, but that bandwidth is hurt by up to 3Mbs with every HD feed you have running on a TV. The Optik TV service, PVR Anywhere requires you to have a terminal (or xbox) at each PC. The cost per month is $10 per extra box ($5 for Xbox), or I think you can buy the boxes for ~$150. the extra box costs are occurred throughout the contract.

The Shaw offer is $85 for Extreme Internet, TV and Phone. the phone includes a bunch of long distance minutes and calling features, I think the equivalent of that for Telus runs between $142 and $160 a month ( after the first year) The TV being roughly equivalent and the Internet being virtually identical except it is not hurt when you have your TV on.

Both the Bell and Shaw offers do not require a contract but expire after a year. You can then call back after a year to get whatever pricing they are offering at that point. With Telus you are locked in at the regular price unless you pay our your contract which I think was $10 a month.

Overall, Telus is a very good offer for the first year, but the numbers after that year are really scary, especially if you have the 3 year contract. The Sha offer (and the Bell 20% offer) both also only last for a year, but neither require signing a new contract. Also, if your internet speed is important to you, having a 3Mbs penalty for each TV you have on is pretty steep.

Do you have to get shaw phone to get a deal?

I've called shaw 2 times over the last year (based on an RFD thread) and never gotten a damn thing.

The $85 bundle includes Shaw Phone, with a bunch of long distance. I don't remember how much but the details are somewhere in this thread. I am pretty sure including the phone is cheaper, so there really is no reason not to take it. There isn't a contract and you can easily just cancel it at the end of the 12 months.

When you call Shaw, depending on who you talk to, you might get some resistance. Make sure you know what is being offered by Telus. Know the exact plan, and dollar amounts that you need to duplicate your existing service. Know the terms of any contracts. Explain that you have the offer from Telus and that you would like to keep using Shaw because (you like the service, there is no contract, internet is faster, etc etc) but they need to be able to offer you comparable pricing.

They will give you the retentions offer.

If you call and say, "Uh, I am paying to much for cable and RARRRRR! I waited on hold for an hour you people freaking suck donkey wang and I don't know why I don't switch to Telus", then you won't get much in terms of results.
