This does make a lot more sense.

The cynic in me is seeing the Sun picking who they think will lose so they complain about the winner non stop during their tenure.

But if you look at the entire campaign it does make sense. There's a tweet from someone associated with the suns editorial board a couple of weeks ago where they said that Nenshi really impressed them. From that point on you saw a big shift in the Sun's coverage where they were giving Nenshi more face time than the Herald in their article. You couple that with glowing articles written by Rick Bell and it really doesn't come at a surprise.
The only thing I do see it as a surprise is the rumors that some home builders (who are the bulk of the sun's advertising budget) were openly pushing their employees to vote McIvor. Someone mentioned it in this thread, but some of the big developers have been pushing this and I'm not sure how that will float with their advertisers.
Either way it's a great surprise for the Nenshi camp this morning.

Sorry about that. I know I populate the board with a lot of Nenshi stuff. I've been a supporter and volunteer since before his campaign officially began. Anyway, hope you support whoever you think is the best candidate.
Regarding the Sun endorsement. It is interesting. As c.t.ner points out he clearly impressed them at his editorial board meeting. I think they view him as someone who is actually committed to reforming how city hall works, and knows how to do it, which appeals to them (and probably most people). At the same time he is progressive and forward thinking, which is giving him appeal across the political spectrum.

I don't know when that editorial board meeting was but at the start of the campaign it seemed pretty clear to me that the sun was pro-McIver. But then it's like they flipped a switch to Nenshi. Great news and I hope it generates the momentum he needs to win tomorrow.
PS: Do not read the comment section of that Sun announcement article. It burns the eyes.

I have to agree, until I saw another article posted by the sun which specifically addresses some of the racist comments and emails from their own readers.
I am personally more impressed with this article then the Nenshi endorsement.

Please keep in mind that you're voting for the candidate, not for the people endorsing him.

I think the Calgary Sun is a good endorsement as back in September it seemed like McIvor was their guy. Shows how Nenshi's platform is catching on with the masses plus a diverse crowd. It's more than just young, social networking types.
