True...I guess I'm just amazed on how big of a deal this is to people. Who would of thought the world would care so much for a bunch of miners.
It's not a story about miners..........it's a story about people.
They were down there for over 2 months. At first, most people just assumed they had died. It is a massive ordeal to drill down there and bring everyone up alive.
I told my wife tonight that we're going to remember these past couple of days for the rest of our lives. It's historical. And as much as there's a lot of crappy headlines in the news today, this was different. I don't think most people would bat an eye anymore if 33 people died somewhere in the world today or tomorrow.........we're used to hearing about that. So to actually see 33 people that were presumed dead at one time being brought back to the Earth's surface while their relatives waited was pretty emotional.
Something like this doesn't exactly happen every day.

I guess I'm just amazed of the media attention it got and that my fobish mom who only watches T.V when the Flames are playing was glued to the televison all day watching CNN. Didn't want to sound prickish I guess I just didn't understand the whole magnitude of this rescue.
The World can always use a little good news. This was compared to Apollo 13.

I can't remember the details on how they found them alive. But aparently they went for 17 days on 3 days worth of emergency rations.
Yeah each man lived for 17 days on 4 cans of tuna.
They estimated where the collapse was and just began drilling holes, there was even another collapse and they had to stop.
Then the trapped miners finally heard some drilling and start to tap back with the tools they had. Finally a bit broke through and the miner stuck a note on the drill bit that all 33 of them were alive. That's when they were able to start transferring food and supplies down there and the miners really had a sense that they could be save, even if at the time, people were saying by Christmas.
It wasn't just an event yesterday, alot of people had been following the story for 2 months.

I can only imagine it wasn't pretty. Panic, the fear of imminent death. People will do crazy things in those circumstances.
It is remarkable that they all survived though. I wonder when the movie comes out.
