Why is it Nenshi night? I don't know if I feel that is appropriate unless the Flames are going to do a night for each candidate. The Stamps introduced Higgins during the labour day game on the field and I think they took some flack for that because at the next home game they had a couple more candidates.

Which is why i have repeatedly said i am merely observing this thing from a distance...and i certainly dont get the street vibe nor do i have a dog in the fight whatsoever.

I like what i read about him and by all means he would be my choice if i was back there. That doesnt take away from historical trends, nor what is being said about his highest area of support...maybe thats all wrong, i dont know but if i was a betting man and reading what i am reading albeit from across the continent, i would say he is in trouble with the age bracket thing (again if true). Nothing more and nothing less.

I'm almost 100% sure this 'Nenshi Night' is just all the supporters that will be at the game encouraging others to spread the word and wear purple. No affiliation with the Flames at all.

PS: Nenshi guarantees the cup if elected*

history is not on his side, but momentum is. The one real positive i would take is the last US election where without question, the young people were the ones who put Obama over the top. Maybe that tide of change reaches Calgary and it works. Gonna be interesting to watch at any rate.

She is supposed to be on X929 right now as well - though she ducked out of an interview with that station two or three times already so I am not sure if she actually made it on.

And FWIW, Joe Connolly was campaigning outside the Dome before the home opener. It was just the campaign volunteers acting of their own accord - and in that case, mostly just getting in the way.

And to be fair, Tranny, at 33-30-30, the statement "If they get them out to vote" applies to all three candidates. Barb's main supporter base is the high school graduate/dropout crowd, which ain't too likely to vote either. McIver seems to be the candidate most likely to have motivated voters based on historical trends, which is why it is very good to see his campaign stalling.

Of course it does....but again I am just going off what has been written all over the place, Nenshi's HIGHEST level of support is in the 18-34 demo, the demo that has the lowest actual turnout historically. That trend needs to be broken for him to win, unless the polling is completely off base in that declaration.

And where did you read about Higgins supporter base? I havent read that and in fact i have never read about such a classification. However, if true, i would agree she would need em all as well. I would of assumed that her biggest support group are a bit older and came home and saw her every night on TV for 20 years, thereby having trust in her familiarity if nothing else.

Somehow i think people are reading what i have been saying as i am anti-nenshi, and nothing could be further from the truth. I am merely going by history, trends and what has been reported...and all this as a very neutral observer since the decision itself has no bearing on me at this point other than some peripheral stuff. I just found this whole thing fascinating as of late as when i was in town in August, there was no buzz about any of it and it seemed a foregone conclusion that McIver was gonna win in a walk.

I would be curious to hear the answer as well, as I live in the City and have never heard that about her follower's.

Basically in my view that statement is crap.

She did an interview with Mike McCourt and it was an EPIC disaster for her. She pretty much confirmed that other people approached her for running for mayor and when Mike said that she was a puppet candidate she got completely frazzled and didn't know how to respond.

He then asked her about her political instincts and why she choose a "screw up" campaign manager at the start of her campaign and she went off on Mike saying that he was asking questions with a bias and that they were unfair. Finally when the interview was over she totally left the set fuming and didn't even shake his hand (or look at him for that matter).

If anyone ever had a thought of voting for her I would definately show them that interview. Pretty much confirmed everything we would have thought of Barb Higgins.

I didn't see it either, but many of the involved were there as a panel from ArtsVoteYYC and apparently after the interview ended she came over and chewed a bunch of them out for their questions.

Also the one host (McCourt) pretty much asked who is pulling her puppet strings. That's a low blow, but if you're running for the top job you should be able to find a way to laugh and deflect a question like that. Or give a straight up answer that proves otherwise.

Edit: What Disco_Stu said right above me.

Also from that article, what is potentially Higgins' ace in the hole:

Incidentally, and interestingly, Ric McIver bought a sponsored link for his website on Google if you search "Naheed Nenshi", but not "Barb Higgins".

If nothing else, she should at least be able to handle being in front of a camera. If she's getting frazzled by a morning show host, how will she react when she's being attacked by experienced politicians, special interest groups and angry grandmas in the real world where people will probably be more vicious.

It's going to be up at 8:15 on the BT web site. But the gist of it is that Mike McCourt was asking some pretty hard hitting questions of Barb, but he asked a question all on the lines of "Are you going to be the marionette to some puppet masters" and Barb went off.

She stormed out and on her way out, there was a group of volunteers from Artvote Calgary waiting to ask questions and she lambasted them. Were not talking like kids, but volunteers within the arts community theatre reps, etc.

It looks like others did a good job of covering it.
Anyways, I didn't see it live and I'm only reading the response online, but here's some of the twitter reaction from the interview. So take it for what it is.

Take it for what it is. It's hard to get a good read of what actually happened from all the RTs and such. But an interesting interview nonetheless.

Again there is no where in the article that supports the statement you wrote.....

"Barb's main supporter base is the high school graduate/dropout crowd, which ain't too likely to vote either"
The quote is as follows;
"She is leading among people with no post secondary education"
