Jarvis will always have a spot in my heart. He blocked the game winning kick of South Carolina in 06 keeping the Gators available to play OSU.

Thats easy for you to say when you haven't watched any of those games. I watched every single one. Cassel has the benifit of an incredible defense so far this season along with two strong running backs and pass protection. All things that Brodie Croyle didn't have when he was the starter for the Kansas City Chiefs. You can't blame the 0-9 record squarely on Croyle.

False.

Most QB's have one, two or all of those things. Not sure what the point is.

fair enough, but none of that points to him being any better than Cassel. None of it.
Im not picking on you, but it is a truism throughout football at every level it seems,
"the backup QB is always the most popular player on a team".
KC is 3-1, and as I said that isnt because of Cassel, but they also have not lost because of him. Put Croyle in and that record could easily be inverse.
Big test for him this weekend though, as the Texans D is great against the run, but a complete debacle against the pass.
It would help if Bowe could hang on to a pass once in while too.

Did you watch that Colts game on Sunday? Yes, Bowe should've had an extra catch or two but Cassel was terrible when the game was on the line. He threw something like 8 or 9 straight incomplete passes that absolutely killed drives.

I thought Croyle looked decent as well on probably the worst team KC ever fielded. There are probably a lot of politics in regards to starting Croyle (he's not Pioli's draft pick) ahead of Cassel (Pioli gave him the big bucks) and you aren't going to see that happen unless there is an injury or the losses start to amount. Right now Cassel is a caretaker who is asked to make throws on 3rd down or dump off short passes and it's been effective enough to get the Chiefs to a 3-1 record so there's no reason to change things up until they start trending down. The team knows his weaknesses and have called the plays accordingly.
As a Raiders fan I am very happy that they are being patient with Cassel as he's really the only hope the Raiders have of beating them in their head to head matchups.

So you believe that Cassel single handidly lost that game? Even though his pass% was basically the same as Peyton Mannings, he had a ball dropped in the end zone, and never threw an INT?
OK then.
As i have said, he needs to be better. No question about that. That, however, does not mean that Brodie friggin Croyle is a better QB. It just doesn't.
The team is 3-1, last undefeated team in the entire NFL, lead their division....hey I have an idea, "lets change QB's"!!! Yikes.
If he starts turning the ball over, or is completely ineffective at moving the team then, and only then, should a change be contemplated. I love it when fans wanna fix what is working.
Honest question here...are KC fans having a hard time dealing with success at this point? Its the only reason I can think of to be worrying about such a drastic change as what has been suggested.

I can understand wanting to see Croyle.
Over last season and into a 3-1 start this season, Chiefs fans have seen Cassel and they have an idea what his ceiling is. The Chiefs are a different team than they were the last time Croyle was the starter, and they want to see what he can do. Playing QB on a team where the defense still gives you a chance to win in the 4th quarter is different than playing on a team that is often down by 2 scores at the half.
Cassel is really good at keeping the ship on course, the fans want to know if Croyle can be a captain.
Personally, I think the Chiefs stick with Cassel because he fully knows Charlie Weis' system. Cassel will have started the season as the safe choice and to give the team someone on the field fully comfortable with the system and Croyle time to learn it. But with the team being such a surprise, you don't switch starting QBs.

Gotta go with Tranny here. Matt Cassel didn't win the game for the Chiefs on Sunday, but he didn't lose it either. IMO Reggie Wayne doesn't drop that sure TD pass that Dwayne Bowe flat out dropped. Most QB's would completely flip out at a team mate for dropping that pass, but Cassel just clapped his hands and lined up for the next play.
I think Cassel is a bit like a lot of NHL players now where people hate the contract and take it out on the player. I've said till I'm blue in the face that it's the same as franchising him for two years, than being able to cut him loose. The Chiefs were way under the cap last year, and with no cap this year his salary is only relevent to the owner of the team. IMO Paying Cassel big money didn't prohibit the Chiefs from going out and getting an upgraded QB this year. They needed to use all the draft picks they had to help build up the rest of the team and I don't think Jimmy Clausen or Colt McCoy are guys who'll ever lead a team to a Superbowl.
Brodie Croyle sucks, even in college he couldn't stay healthy, and for an NFL QB that is a big key. In fact Croyle is fortunate that Todd Haley likes him or he'd be out of football.

Chargers will rid themselves of Shawne Merriman when he recovers from his latest injury.

I simply don't think Cassel is that good. At his age most players have full starting college careers under their belt but when Brady went down a couple of years ago it was the first year he started since high school. He's a tall guy and probably fairly intelligent but he just hasn't played enough to develope pocket awareness. You can see every time his first read is taken away he's lost in the pocket. Windows can close pretty fast in the NFL and if you think you have a good team you can't waste it with a pedestrian QB like Cassel. If I was managing that team I would release Cassel in the offseason sign Pennington to start for a season and draft a QB in the first two rounds in April. Pennington has a weak arm like Cassel and is injury prone but when healthy he wins games and is very adept at the short/medium passing game. He would be a good example for a young QB to learn from.

Eagles have traded Mike Bell to Cleveland in exchange for Jerome Harrison. No idea what I think of this yet, but it seems like an upgrade.

I'd think it's quite an upgrade, Harrison is a more versatile back than Bell ever was.
Don't really understand this deal from Cleveland's point of view.

Nor do I but we are talking about a team that brought in Jake "the fake" Delhomme to be their starter who has picked up right where he left off last year with 1 TD, 4 Picks and a 48 QB rating. Great deal for the Eagles.

Just amazing how far that guy has fallen in the past 3-4 years, especially considering he's only 26. I remember seeing quite a few Merrimen jerseys around town back in 06-07. Makes you wonder how much of his early success was due to the juice.

Definite upgrade. We had Bell last year(as I'm sure you know), he's a solid 3rd & short back who's always pumping his legs, but the guy's brittle. He looked like our #1 back the first month of last season and then just completely wore down as the season wore on to the point where he was pretty much a non-factor by the end. I totally do not understand this trade from a Browns point of view.
