That was an epic game (6-1).
I am officially addicted to one timers. It makes me feel awesome.

Ea kicked me in the face last night.
In the middle of a game I got DC'ed then could not log in for about an hour.
When I logged in my Player was reset to all C's and to a playmaker with the playmaker boost pack applied. (I play a 2wayF)
Hooray.

Ouchie. Also ouchie, I was at the season opener in Edmonton.
Anyhow, I'm back now, and I have been working my way through BAP as a goaltender, playing only the last 5 min. of each game, usually.
I put much of my XP into breakaways (96 overall) since they are tricky and rebound control, spreading out the rest.
Right away, I noticed a big difference. I won an OTP game quite easily, did not face breakaways, but the rebound control meant my goalie could either cover the puck quickly, or he would deflect rebounds far away.
This is good.

I'm pretty sure "breakaways" is one of those stats that has no effect for human controlled players..... I mean really, what could it possibly do?

I hope it gives you a little assistance on breakaways. Otherwise, ::facepalm::
I can reset my attributes, I hope.

The only way I could see it helping is if it boosted some of your other stats in the case of a breakaway, but that seems unlikely. It's one of the things I really hate about sports games in general, there are way too many useless attributes. It's nice that they have fixed this to a degree in NHL11, but there are still a number of stupid ones.

Your correct. While it's more so a CPU attribute, it helps humans by giving a little boost to your other saving attributes. In the end though, it's up to the human goalie to make the breakaway saves.

So, should I leave it, or try to adjust my attributes?
I figure, since breakaways are common in OTP with people trying to cherrypick, that this may be worthwhile. If it helps me save one goal a game, that could be the difference between winning and losing.

You would be better off adjusting your point distribution and working on your controls for positioning and reactions on the breakaways. Put some points towards breakaways, but don't stack it. It's more beneficial to put points towards rebound control and poke check as well if you feel like playing aggressive at times.

i remember reading over on OS that the breakaway stat is a general modifier for breakaway situations. i don't think its totally useless. if someone is on a breakaway and goes glove side high, then the odds of you making the save will be dependent not only on the glove high attribute, but also the breakaway attribute.
but, as is the case with many of these things, no one seems to know for sure.

This is true, but like, it's still up to the user ultimately to be in position to make the breakaway save. Breakaway attribute isn't ultimately going to make you guy much better if you give the shooters wide open nets.

absolutely. its definitely a diminished attribute for humans. definitely not as important as other areas. and heck, if one was to assume that the team would be playing solid D, the breakaways would be few and far between.
just wanted to add in my 2 cents about it at least having some impact and not being a totally useless attribute!

OK, so I will adjust my stats at some point, leaving a little on breakaways, but spreading them out more.

I re-distributed my attributes. My goalie is now an 81 overall, with stats at 80 or above on most attributes.
I played two frustrating drop in games today. In one, I lost 2-1 despite making the huge majority of saves. Other players dropped out, leaving one player who would call for the puck on every single effing rush! Guess who the other team covered?
The second game made the first one look like a dream team, however...
Imagine my worst tendencies as a forward (but worse), multiply x5 players, and you have your team.
3 of the 5 goals scored on me were 4 on 0s!!! We were the Bruins, and when you watched the replays, you actually could not see a single white jersey in sight. My whole team rushed all the way to the opposing blue line at the slightest whiff of a turnover. I could maybe make the first two or 3 saves, but there's no D man within 15 feet of the puck!
That was not fun.

LOL!!... at least you got some good practice in
Drop in is always fun for that.... played one game and I tried so hard not to quit... I was playing d, and had a computer goalie... I had 4 teammates standing at their blue line calling for the pass non stop... it was 4 on 1 the entire game... I ended up quiting as it was 7-0 after the first period... I feel your pain!

I have some questions.
I unlocked the Power Forward booster pack and I equiped it. Then I went to my Attribute menu and noticed I had like 700 points left over. I used it up on things that I wanted but nothing changed. My overall stayed at 79. Is that supposed to happen or am I glitched?

if you equip a boost pack, you aren't able to use the XP to upgrade individual stats. the boost packs this year are all or nothing type deals. no additional slots or anything else.
