Not even close.
Watch Alex Smith, Jimmy Clausen, Jake Delhomme, Trent Edwards, Derek Anderson/Max Hall, Todd Collins yesterday, etc etc. There are a LOT of duds in the league.
No way is Cassell among the best and there is no denying that, but he is far from the worst. He needs to be better as well, again no question. Whatever his salary is irrelevant to the discussion as well, he wasnt the one who paid himself and in a non-salary capped year it matters not at all. It just shows how hard it is to get a quality NFL QB at times, and when you have one you best hold on to him.
Pioli may have made a mistake in paying Cassell what he did, but acquiring him wasn't necessarily a mistake at all IMO. There were few options at the time and as always NFL guys tend to go with players they know.
Put it this way...do you think the Chiefs would be better off starting Brody Croyle? I certainly dont...and this is a team that is 3-1. That's pretty good stuff considering where they have been.

Most of those are not starters and 2 are rookies. When you start a rookie you have to have realistic expectations. Hell look at the difference between Mark Sanchez last year and this year. I think that Cassell is a bottom 5 starting quarterback, because he is what he is. I don't think he's going to get better. Not saying that Clausen (I wasn't big on him anyways) or Hall will, but there's a chance they will so I wouldn't rate them worse than Cassell. He was signed to be the future franchise qb and he's failed. Of course there are worse qb's but that's why they ride the pine. It's also why I prefer the Jets strategy of signing an old vet for their backup qb. Sure Brunell isn't going to come in and win any games for you, but he also probably isn't going to cost you one with a mistake. Chiefs should sign Jeff Garcia, not necessarily to start him immediately, but if they start losing games due to Cassell they can make the switch before it's too late.

Now I know that fans take losses hard but Chargers fans have had it so good against the Raiders that losing to them is very, very upsetting;

So you agree they are worse, thereby making Cassell not "the worst QB in the league."? Yes?
other than that....thanks for the contribution.

Looking forward to this one as it is a divisional rival that is playing. I think Pats and Dolphins fans can agree on something tonight, we both want a Jets loss.
I would love to see Moss explode on Revis Island or whatever stupid island it is tonight.

Yup...unlike those SEC boys that need to be good enough to get an NFL job!
Of course we shouldn't dismiss brody Croyle. Jamarcus Russell, and Jason Cambell just yet!!

I rather have Croyle as our starting QB in KC.
but poking fun at SEC qbs would work well if your school isn't on the verge of total mediocrity due to cheating from it's former player. don't forget it's heisman winning QB who was all but washed out of the league by a guy that was stocking shelves at a local grocery store in Iowa just a few years before he was SB MVP...

LOL!!! Yes, Reggie Bush is the cheatingest cheater ever in CFB history and that has all kinds of bearing on PAC 10 QB's in the NFL that absolutely domiante any talk about SEC Qb's...because why?
Nice argument...no really.

Kurt Warner came to Arizona and basically washed Matt Leinert (your golden boy) out of the league. The year before Kurt came to town wasn't he cut by the Giants? Everyone thought his career was over, that's until he came to Arizona and grabbed the job from a USC or Pac10 QB.
But just a year before he made it in St. Louis he was stocking shelves at a local grocery store in Iowa. But I guess Matt can always look at his heisman knowing that he was beat out by a no name AFL QB that turned stock boy living in families basement, to NFL back up, to Superbowl MVP, back to back up, to jobless to Stealing a job from a Pac 10 QB...
Must be nice to know the biggest NFL qb Bust was from the Pac10...

So, if i am reading this correctly, because Kurt Warner came out of stocking shelves in Iowa and won a SB in St. Louis (and stold that job from a Big 10 grad), then became the best QB in Arizona (taking the job of a rookie from USC) that translates into the PAC 10 not being better at supplying NFL QB's than the SEC?
Alrighty then.

It would be nice....if it were true.
Two words for you....Jamarcus Russell. SEC 1st overall. (out of the game after 3 years)
Matt Leinart? PAC 10 10th overall. (Still in league 4 years later)
Amusing attempt to somehow bother me with the whole "my golden boy" though.

At least Matt Cassel can stay healthy enough to start 8 games in a row. Brodie Croyle can barely stay together to finish a game. Plus despite his big arm I still think he had like a 5.6 yards per attempt which Matt Cassel laughs at. Cassel was an upgrade and Mike Vrabel does give that defence a lot of leadership so losing that second round pick which Herm Edwards and Carl Petersons scouts would screw up doesn't bother me.
Ultimately though it would have been better to have the team in place than pay the couple other picks that it cost to get a guy like McNabb. It still blows my mind that teams like Arizona or San Fran who are both in that very winnable NFC West didn't make a move for him.
Great catch here by Harvin to make this one a bit more interesting.
