Well Nenshi does take on the ridiculous focus and angle of that article:
Quote:
Last week I had a great meeting with the Calgary Herald editorial board. We spent well over an hour discussing in detail my ideas for the city, my leadership experience, and what sets me apart from Barb Higgins and Ric McIver. In this age of sound-bite politics, it was refreshing to hash out issues in detail, with full, open and honest discussion. This is how I've run my campaign, and it's how I pledge to run city hall.
At the very end of our time, I was asked a question that no one in the mainstream media has ever asked me before: "is Calgary ready for a Muslim mayor?" I answered that question as I do now -- that I have grown up in this great city never for one second believing that there was anything I would be prevented from doing because of my faith.
You can imagine, therefore, my surprise to open my Herald the next day and see that this 30 seconds became the main focus of the story, complete with quotations from someone in Toronto whom I have never met or spoken to, who I am pretty sure doesn't follow Calgary politics, but who happens to follow a faith somewhat related to my own.

That article was stupid and in poor taste. But I was mostly referring to the lack of coverage people felt he was getting earlier in the race.

I found that hilarious, especially the part about the pictures of him being hand picked to show him in the worst light. This is ironic considering that the pictures on Nenshi's own iphone app are terrible. He's just not a photogenic guy. All that said I don't care what he looks like or where he goes to worship, as long as he can perform the job of mayor well.

You say that now, but once you find out he uses triple-ply toilet paper over double, all hell is going to break loose in the final stretch of this election.

The Herald hates Nenshi so much, they only let him write an article for the paper every couple of weeks.

I expect that kind of crap from the Sun... But the Herald?
Odd.

How? She has done nothing. If McIver doesn't win, it's hopefully the case of Nenshi building enough support to win. If she wins, people in this city are stupid to put it bluntly.

A couple of really good fiscal articles from the Chamber for those worried about spending.
http://www.greatcalgary.ca/issues/finance.html
I particularly like todays: http://www.greatcalgary.ca/issues/fi...article-4.html
Quote:
The City of Calgary proudly communicates that its residential property taxes per capita are third lowest in the country.
However, The City communicates significantly less information regarding the competitiveness of Calgary’s other major tax revenues (i.e. non-residential property tax and the business tax).
Comparing non-residential property tax and business tax per person across Canada for cities with populations over 100,000, Calgary is second highest only to Montreal (2009 figures).
Focusing on Calgarians’ total municipal tax burden (residential property tax, non-residential property tax and business tax), our city ranks near the middle of the pack across 21 Canadian municipalities.

Position of the candidates on pesticide bans and smoking with children in cars have been published by the Canadian Cancer Society: http://voteforhealth.ca/calgary.html (there are also responses from alderman candidates).
I read the written responses from the major candidates (except McIvor, who didn't complete the survey) - looks like Higgins falls for the "natural = safe" fallacy, another mark against her in my books.

In all seriousness though, has anyone else seen a sudden shift in the Sun's coverage towards Nenshi? I know it started with Rick Bell's string of articles, but it really seems that the Sun is making a quiet push for Nenshi.

Yup, and I've never really cared for the Sun. So these recent developments scare me...

I listened to the first part of the Barb interview on QR77, I like when Mike said "I read early that you want to cut the red tape in City Hall" she was like Yes and all happy, then he was like "How?" and she had no clue on how to answer it.
