Default Restaurant Recommendation

Folks, I'm looking for a recommendation for a good restaurant for a private function.

I'm looking at about 20 people, including 6 kids - and I'd like something with a private room.

I can't afford something at the level of Rouge (which is unreal by the way if you do have a chance to go) - so something just a touch below that.

Recommendations?

Belgo is rather nice. I second the suggestion.

Was at Belgo for a lunch last week (group of 17), wasn't overly impressed with the food quality or service, given the price point.

Second the comment regarding Belgo not being a great choice. Went there with a group from work, and the service was unbelievably bad.

Depending on whether your group is into seafood or not, I know Catch has private rooms.

Redwater in the south has a private room... not sure about the one downtown. I've always enjoyed my meal & the service there.

See if you can get a private room @ Centini, I've had a few amazing meals there.

Catch is definitely a higher price point than Belgo if my memory serves me correctly.

Redwater (Stadium) has a private room in the basement.

The NW one used to have a private room downstairs, but that was when it was Luciano's. Anyone know if it is still there?

Edit: Troutman answered my question before I asked it.

This. For the price level, Redwater is pretty darn good. A solid bet, especially if you've got kids (guess it really depends on age).

Harbour City. Make sure you get Sam as your waiter. If you want something "white" and not overly expensive, there is Ed's - they have several rooms you could book for a private function.

Is Belgo owned by the Cowboys' guy (whatever his fataing name is - can't recall)? If it is, stay as far away as possible - "mediocrity at inflated prices" sums up all his establishments.

Catch was amazing. I've been there twice for wedding after-rehearsal dinners and they catered well to everyone. I'm not a huge seafood fan myself, but the staff went out of their way to make sure I had something I enjoyed. I didn't ask for any special treatment, but they saw I was just munching on a salad instead of a main course. They asked why. They then made me a special personal dish.

The only issue is parking, but it's not worth *not* going there just for that.

I think my beer at Belgo was $10, kind of expensive for me!

Anyways, I too was not impressed with the food there and it really doesn't take much for me to be impressed.

Newport Grill at the Inn on Lake Bonavista is nice and has a private room. Took my staff there for our Christmas party last year and everybody liked it. If you're a southy it might be worth checking out.

I've been to a couple private functions at La Dolce Vita that were very good. It wouldn't have been cheap, but probably cheaper than Rouge.
