Not great compensation for Moss. More a case of addition by subtraction.

yep poor comp for Moss, but I assume something was said or done to force BBs hand on this one. Seems Randy has these blowouts or brain farts every few years. Considering the Pats paid a 4th to get him, and got a 3rd back is ok I guess.
The Pats really seem to be changing their offensive focus to more of a Tight end scheme anyways, but pulling out a guy that gets double coverage every game will put more pressure on the rest of the guys.

I think they plan on using the run a bit more with Greenellis, and those two rookie tight ends that they have are both pretty talented kids. They still have Welker who is a great slot receiver too. Given that the teams they have to beat all feature big time pass rushes these days, these quick dump off routes tend to be the way to beat the blitz and keep your QB from getting killed.
Also keep in mind that they have the Raiders first plus their own first this year and just acquired an additional third. It is possible that they'll use some of this ammo to go after Vincent Jackson who's pretty much a younger and less outspoken slightly downgraded version of Moss.

As TO has found out there isn't a large market for aging, diva wide receivers. As good as they can be at times on the field they can be sulkers and distractions when they aren't getting the ball win or lose. The Vikings are desperate and need to win now so I can see why they made the deal but you get the feeling that the Vikings are more of a collection of talent than a cohesive football team. Also doesn't help that Childress is the 2nd worst head coach in the NFL after Tom Cable.
Also one wonders how the Patriots will fare on offense without Moss. Phasing him out and not throwing the ball to him is one thing but he was still on the field occupying double coverage and stretching the defense while Brady was throwing underneath. Now that Moss threat is gone teams can just focus on blanketing Welker. Woodhead looked good on Monday but if he turns into a key part of that offense they could be in trouble.

I think Lovie Smith deserves to be mentioned ahead of Childress and Cable.

It's too bad they got rid of Moss so early. I am going on a trip to Boston Nov 21 to see the Pats play the Colts, and I was looking forward to seeing Moss play.

Hernandez looks good, and is the leading receiver for NE.

You could throw Singletary in there as well I guess. Cable shouldn't really count as the only reason he's an NFL head coach is because no qualified, credible candidates would accept a job under Davis. He's an offensive line coach and just looking at how bad the Raiders offensive line is every year tells you all you need to know about how competent he is.
I would take Lovie Smith 100x's over Childress.

Brandon Tate appears to be the guy the Pats expect to stretch the field. They have plenty of possession receivers (Welker, Edelman, the TEs) but need someone to pull the coverage deep and open up those in between routes.
The NFL guys on twitter seem to be unanimous in their belief that the Pats won't go after V Jackson. They think they don't want a guy with a pending suspension, off the field issues, and a year long suspension if he is caught again. Plus people are noticing his absence hasn't slowed down the Chargers air attack, so maybe Jackson was more a beneficiary of Rivers and not as big a talent as he supposed.

Clinton Portis out for 4-6 weeks. dude just cannot stay healthy and this one hurts the Skins. Though with Shanahan as coach he will find a way to run the ball no matter what.

Torrain or whatever the kid's name is in Washington is should shine now. He had pretty much passed Portis on the depth chart, at least according to some of their local scribes. This kid looks like the real deal.

He is the real deal, and would've been so two years ago had he not blown out his knee in the preseason. McDaniels didn't even give him a chance and cut him before OTA's last year. Was not surprised whatosever that he popped up with Shanahan.

Ugh...more Packer news that aint so good.
Both LB's Nick Barnett and Brandon Chillar missed practice today and when McCarthy was asked if they would be out a lengthy amount of time he answered "yes thats a real possibility".
I give up.

Now will Farve have a deep threat to pass to. Hopefully Moss will be the answer to jump start the Vikings offence. My brother who lives in Minneapolis is tickled pink that Moss is returning.
Go Vikings!

Favre has had a lot of deep threats this season, the only difference is now, one will wear a Viking's Uniform.

BB has a history of doing this with older players and knowing when to cut ties. He is a brilliant football guy but he is is very cut-throat when going about his business. They have been phasing Moss out of the offense slowly but surely all year. They just smoked a division rival on the road and Moss had zero catches while doing so. He has 9 catches on the season. Their rookie TE has twice that many IIRC.
This trade makes way to much sense not to happen.
|
Yes they smoked us but I wouldn't have considered that a juggernaut of an offensive performance. It was more special teams, but hey this is how the pats won in 2001. Good defence, good special teams, good offence. They were well balanced.

I thought I read that Chillar had a pretty severe shoulder injury? I haven't read anything about Barnett being out though.
Wrist injury for Nick Barnett, could end his season
Sorry tranny.
