also, do not over push yourself. take your time with the workouts, at least in the first week.

the people on the video have been doing it for a while, so they can put out some crazy numbers. just do what you can and stick with it. numbers will improve over time.

And as hard as you may think it'll be to get up and do another work out the next day, as Tony says, "keep pushing play" it really is worth it.

Haha you're not the first to msg me or PM me about it. I'm fairly certain to conclude about what my signature says.

Was the TO game last season in Toronto, we weren't down in the game just being hemmed in our own zone for 5 straight shifts.

By that deduction on top of what I've discussed with others on what we think he's saying, he wouldn't be talking about scoring a goal.

Bumping this thread because I'm considering starting this program. My gym shut down this week and I'm either going to get a membership at another one or maybe give this P90X a shot until christmas.

Kind of a strange question maybe, but are the exercises loud? Is there a lot of jumping, thuds, heavy footwork, anything like that? Is it something that would bother my neighbours below me? Is an apartment even ample enough space for it?

Plyo there is alot of jumping, nut every other workout is relatively quiet. Kenpo can be a bit louder at times, but nothing too crazy.

sorry to bump this thread but I have a few questions about this.

I was/am quite overweight. I started in October going to the gym, re-doing my diet (no cheese, I did not go vegetarian ), and generally started getting healthier. I have so far dropped about 30 pounds. Not a lot, but a good start.

I am still overweight by about 40 pounds. My goal is to get within the right weight for my age, height etc.

Now, having said that, will I be able to do the P90X or should I start with the Power 90.

Honestly, I dont have the strength to do chin ups...........yet! and I am not familiar enough with either program to know which one or if either one is right for me.

At the gym I have been mostly on a cardio program with some weight training thrown in for good measure. It has definately helped and I am certainly a lot more fit now than when I started. In fact, I was able to play my first hockey game (goalie) in more than 3 years recently without having to toss my cookies on the bench.

So, can anyone fill in some blanks for me here?

when i first started p90x i could maybe get out 2 chin-ups... that's it... so i did what i could then used a chair to help do more

i never did p90, just p90x - and i love it!! looking forward to getting back at it next week (just too busy in december to workout)

the big thing with p90x is modify modify modify - make it work for you!! (you'll hear that a bunch of times on the dvd's)

when i first did p90x i was around 218lbs. after completing the program twice i was down to 180lbs! what can i say - it works! ....and i can now do a bunch of pull ups!

I'm very tall and lanky, so I also had a lot of trouble getting into the chin-ups. Using a chair goes a long ways, it allows me to do 8-10 reps for all my sets, which gets me all of the benefits of the program.

I don't know much about power 90, I think you could save some dough and just start with P90x. Some of the routines will be tough, plyometrics is straight from hell everyones first time and you may not be able to complete it for a while, but it sounds like you have enough of a base to get over the hump. P90x burns an insane amount of calories and just doing your best should get you to your weight goals a lot quicker than the cardio and weight-training you've been doing.

So I'm going to be picking this up, I started getting serious about my weight/health about a year ago and have dropped a good amount of weight, but I want to take it to the next level.

Can anyone recommend a good starter set of weights, chin up bar etc to use with the program?

To lose weight and get in shape I've focused mostly of cardio, walking, running, swimming etc, so a bit lost when it comes to building muscles.

Hard to gauge here exactly, first off I recommend getting Azure's advice, guy's a guru when it comes to working out around these parts.

Secondly if you are doing P90X specifically and are serious about putting on muscles I recommend NOT going the weight bands route and getting actual weights instead for all your workouts. As far as a chin up bar, getting the one you can get at Sears the dual action chin-up and push up bar is the best way to go (just forget the exact name of it).

As for weights I'm not 100% sure without knowing your strength but a good rule of thumb would be having a set ranging from 10lbs (yes that's low but you may need it, especially for legs and back day trust me) to about 40lbs if you're just starting out.

And other than that good luck! I've done a lot of rounds of P90X, BUT I did the cardio route, I've never been keen on getting all muscley personally but play sports so love to be lean and in shape.

I did the p90x and hated it, not because of the hard work but because of the approach it takes to working out. A lot of the movements are very repetitive and the advice given on each move is extremely minimal, I did it for about 3 weeks and no matter what I did my knees wouldn't stop hurting from the repetitions in a 4 foot area. In all honesty it's just a program around modified routines that is structured so you don't have to do any thinking. I didn't like the claustrophobic aspect to it either, if you can stand hopping around in the same spot for an hour have fun.

Doing P90 right now, then hoping to do Master Series and ultimately P90x in the fall.

From what I gather, diving straight into P90x is not a great idea. Sure some can do it, but it's not a routine that out of shape, overweight people are encouraged to just jump into and expect success.

I'm doing P90x right now, and I am in the best shape of my life.

Its effing hard, but the results can be had if you work for them. With that said, I lead a very active lifestyle before trying p90x. I would definitely not suggest it as a workout program for someone just starting to get into shape.

5 days a week with heavy weights and cardio is great....but do you really push yourself as hard as with p90x? I know that whenever I went to the gym I would never push myself as hard as any of the workouts I'm doing now.

It is the real deal, you just have to commit to doing it. I bike to work everyday, do p90x, and play soccer...I've never had more energy in my life, its awesome.

It's unnecessary if you have the knowledge base for exercise prescription, but most people do not. Also, the allure of working out at home for cheap is worth it alone for most.
