Of course not. I haven't even seen the movie and I knew that Ben Affleck was one of the bank robbers from watching the trailer. I think everyone does.

I thought it was better than Gone baby gone. Very entertaining. Good for Affleck in his quest to restore some dignity after Pearl Harbour and his metrosexual Jlo faze..
Renner continues to shine as well and is looking like one of the next big things in hollywood.
I forgot to mention John Hamm. Great in the role of the prickish f.b.i. character. It's funny how you end up rooting for the bad guys, due in large part because of him.

Affleck is a very talented guy, I think, who got a little lost in celebrity and made a swack of crap movies. I think that talent will ultimately come through in his directing. The Newsweeek quote from the OP is high praise indeed. Perhaps it may bear out to be true.

No Country for Old Men, There will be Blood.... Gone baby gone was good, but not even in the same level as these two.

In his opinion it sure was, and mine too. Considering it's a 94% on rotten tomatoes, I think it's easily on that level.

well your opinion doesn't count.
No jk, it was a very well thought after movie, very good plot, and story development. not predictable, very well done. It was a great movie. There is just somthing about those other two movies thats sets them aside. Be it the no music through out No country for old men... How can you make such a great movie with NO music.... and There will be blood, was just very well done, and amazing acting, very artistic, and filmed perfect!

Saw it tonight. Solid effort but I wasn't as blown away as some of the critics seem to be. There were a lot of parallels to "Heat."

Someone told me it was "Heat meets The Departed". Can you confirm the opinion of this wannabe Siskel?

The only thing that it has in common with the The Departed is that it's set in Boston.

Just got back. Pretty cool movie. I thought John Hamm was awesome as was Jeremy Renner and Affleck. Pretty good action sequences.
The movie was slow at times but I found it to be tolerable because the story was good and the editing was tight. Can't think of any plot holes really, because they'd eventually be explained.

saw it today, thought it was a great crime flick. after this and Gone Baby Gone i think Affleck has done a good job of redeeming himself, for the first time watching one of his movies i saw the character he was portraying, and not the actor on screen
the one thing i don't get is the money he left behind the Flames framed picture. first, which player was that and why was it in the movie? and second, who was the money for? i'm not sure if it went to his friends sister that he was banging and who eventually gave them up, or if that was the hockey arena and he made the anonymous donation himself (in the movie it looked like Claire had made the donation since she was at the arena, but how would she know that Affleck's mother killed herself, and thus In Memory Of?)
