Hansen insisted in Thursday's media statement that he didn't want to wade into election politics, but he's clearly done just that.
Exactly what I thought.

And Nenshi recently posted this update in the future re: the CPS issue on his site: http://www.nenshi.ca/new/2010/261

However, because we agree on these points does not mean I will not be asking hard questions of the City Administration throughout the campaign and when I am elected Mayor. The point that I was trying to make is that the job of our city council is to do their own research and ask tough question so that we as citizens can be assured that we are getting best value for our tax dollars. Our current City Council didn’t do that when they exempted the Police budget from review. My issue is with City Council and not the men and women in uniform.

Nenshi will be on QR77's 'Calgary Today' at 3:05 to talk about his questions on the police budget.

Nenshi is gaining momentum by staying in the forefront. He's starting to ask the questions that others might have been too afraid to ask, and establishing points that others may have been afraid to initiate.

I like where this is going. He's a complete breath of fresh air for this city, and I think people are realizing it.

Wouldn't having one of the lowest per-capita officer levels actually be a logical consequence of having one of the highest per-officer costs? (For a given level of per-capita funding, the answer is yes.)

So I finally got around to reading Nenshi's website and what really strikes me is how much he actually lays a plan out.

Higgins policy is based on rainbows and unicorns and it doesn't really seem like she has a clear vision for where the city should be heading.
McIvor's policy is "No".

I would have defined myself as an undecided before solely because I hadn't gotten around to reading any of the candidate's platforms but I know who's got my vote.

I'm really pulling for Naheed, and think that Higgins is going to drop like a rock (as if she isn't already). My guess is that she will end up fighting for the 3/4 spot. Once these long slow declines get rolling they are hard if not impossible to stop.

I still stand by my comments before about how difficult it is to make up these spreads. Its not easy! That being said with a few guys dropping out, and the one of the main two falling fast that support has to go elsewhere. Here's hoping its anti-McIver sentiment in general and goes to Nenshi!

Listened to the Nenshi interview on QR77 and the calls being taken after, only one person against Nenshi so far. The rest are supporting him questioning the budget.

It appears as though nobody is being fooled by the other candidates trying to claim that he was attacking the police service.

I know a lot of people (liberals) don't like that station, but I listen to it pretty often. Mostly informed people, mostly conservative, mostly anti union, and very pro questioning budgets.

There is something weird about the police budget. Seems like every other union and budget gets raked over the coals when it comes time for new contracts, but not the police. I wonder why? Why are we Albertans (Calgarians) willing to toss teachers and nurses and city employees and transit operators under the bus or ambulance to keep their budget low, but when it comes to the police, nobody better say a word. Nenshi is right. He says one word about it and suddenly people (that loser Burrows) start calling him anti-police. Yeah f'n right. A mayoral hopeful is anti police. Where's that giant eyeroll smilie when a guy needs it?

Higgins will probably garner most of the Romulan vote.

Wouldn't the high cost of living here have something to do with the cost per officer? Also all the foreign recruiting would have substantial costs associated with it. Combined that with the fact the majority patrol in cruisers vs walking the beat. Just a few things to consider when comparing Calgary to other cities. I'd be curious how we stack up compared to Edmonton. Similar labour crunches in the last 5 years or so.
