One unconfirmed death reported so far, homes, roads and half a town have been reportedly washed away, and a key bridge (the only bridge) into the Burin Peninsula has been washed away - this peninsula is home to 20,000 people. Some area's are reporting over 200 mm of rain as of sunset. The Mayor of St.Johns said his car was being pelted with "projectiles" of house siding and tree limbs on his way to the ATV studios.
Because of lack of communications daybreak could be interesting in the bad way.
Igor was a weird storm as it didn't weaken as forecast since it hit Bermuda and still packed sustained hurricane force winds when it nailed eastern Newfoundland.
Question: has a storm like this ever taken this path and still had anything left?
Here's a vid of one of the roads being washed away (among other things)

My parents house took a bit of a beating but they are okay. They are West of St. Johns though.
Good to hear, I feel the worst for a lot of people, theres a tonne of older houses threwout that area built on hillsides, I only hope people got out to solid areas.
Did we not learn anything from the 'Bart's Comet' episode of The Simpsons?
They were going to build a second bridge out of town, but at the last minute someone tacked on a rider to the bill for increased funding for the perverted arts.

It is not that unusual for hurricanes to penetrate as far north as Newfoundland's latitude; over 40 hurricanes have done so. The last time this occurred was in 2003, when Hurricane Fabian made it to latitude 48.7°N as a hurricane. The all time record is held by Hurricane Faith of 1966, which followed the Gulf Stream and maintained hurricane status all the way north to latitude 61.1°N, just off the coast of Norway.
Hope for the best. Growing up in Florida and being through a couple of hurricanes they just are not that fun.
