Doc Horton (main guy in the workout videos) is on Jim Rome Show today. Could be interesting. Rome's been on it for a couple weeks.

Just a question to the CP fitness junkies, would P90X work for gaining weight very well? I really can't stand the gym and so I've been looking at home workout options and P90X seems like the kind of thing I could really get into. Only problem is I'm not trying to lose weight, I'm hoping to pack on a little (hopefully 15 - 20 pounds by Christmas). If P90X wouldn't work what would be a good alternative?

If you want to gain muscle mass you need to lift heavy weights.
You need to do compound exercises like squats, deadlifts, and bench press.

I have not been able to put on much weight with P90x. Maybe a few pounds, but nowhere near 15-20 lbs.

Ok, so ive decided to start P90x pretty quickly, once I get the materials needed.
I want to do the workouts at home, what equipment should I get that will allow me to do the workouts properly?

Thanks

Yoga Mat, Pull-Up Bar and dumbbells (adjustable if you can) are all required. Bands can be substituted for dumbbells for all exercises though

What about pushups bars? Could they be used also or are pull-up bars better?

Push up bars are not required.

If you really wanted to, dumbbells can be used as pushup bars. Pull up bar is more critical for this program.

Push up bars and pull up bars are two completley different pieces of equipment.

I restarted again this past monday. I love this program.

Pushups and pull ups predominantly work different muscles, they don't sub for each other.

For all you people who just started on the program, I suggest you eat a cheat meal ONCE a week . It will cut the cravings and help prevent yourself from binging with junk food later on.... also keeps your metabolism in check.

I just finished up round 1 of p90x. I actually ended up doing a few extra weeks due to having vacation where I didn't do any workouts, so I added some more on. I did a poor job following the diet, although I did stop eating junk altogether, and started paying more attention to calories, fat and protein.

I started out at 6'1 195lbs, and now I'm down to 185 and feel much stronger. I can definitely see results which is pretty awesome. I've also noticed improvements in my play with sports.

Up next, I'm doing a 30 day Yoga challenge with my girlfriend and plan to mix in 2-3 days resistance as well. Once that is finished I may go for round 2 of p90x and try to clean up the diet a bit more.

GL to those just starting - it is well worth it. IMO the first 3-4 weeks are the hardest, and it starts to get easier after that. There will still be days that you absolutely do not feel like working out, but if you just turn the DVD on you find that the workouts go by pretty fast.

Plyo is what Jim Rome would call "man's game"
It kills you. But at the end of it, it is amazing, if that makes sense.

Marriage for example

It is intense, and will definitely give you results if you commit to the program.

Send me a PM.

If you commit to any program it will work.....for far less cost then what they are asking as well. If you don't know what you are doing in the gym, ask someone who does or talk to a trainer for an hour or two. You'll get way more out of a program that is taylored to your body then anything else.....

The majority of trainers don't know what the hell they're doing. It's like hiring a fast food worker to be your personal chef.
