You can't have duplicate cards (I had this from a pack and it made me get rid of one). I have a couple euros who are low 70's but great players. They are quite common in the trade circles, so I plan on just re-buying them once they're gone. They won't have their training obviously, but I haven't given them much anyway.

if you have a duplicate, you can put it in your trade pile and not sell it. then when your original runs out of games you can dump the card and get the 50-60 pucks for the card. then put the duplicate into the lineup

I was very excited tonight to find Sergei Samsonov available for only 500 pucks! As I already had another Carolina D man, this was an awesome purchase!
I attempted to add him to my lineup...to find out he only had one game left in his career! D'oh!
So then I put him on the auction block for an hour...and someone bought him for 550 pucks!

Been playing this nonstop now that I'm no longer getting disconnected. I got Matthias in my starter set and have built him up to an 81. My best player is Victor Hedman, who I've built up to an 88 with 95 speed and 93 checking. He's absolutely dominant.
It's tough as hell to build up pucks though. I'm 31-8-2 and I still don't have a legitimate NHL forward, I play Matthias on the first line with a couple of Rochester guys for chemistry. With the way contracts work out, I won't be able to buy a 7,500 pack for a long, long time. So I'm stuck hoping one day the standard pack gives me a forward to work with.

it definitely takes a long time to build a legit team without paying for stuff. i would honestly advise you to sit all your nhl guys while you build up your team. no need to waste a stud like hedman while you are playing easy offline tournaments.
my other piece of advice is to use ahl guys instead of trying to get nhl role players. most ahl guys can be had for the minimum price if you keep an eye on the market. my team is all ahl players and i think the most i paid for any of them is 500 pucks or so. (i got a fully trained irving for a pretty decent price even)
also, as far as contracts, i would suggest checking the market for those. i have had success getting the 25, 30, and 35 game contracts for fairly cheap. my personal rule is that i won't spend more than 10 pucks/game on those. (25 game contract for 250 pucks.) then you can get your guys locked up longer term which allows you to save pucks up for jumbo packs and such.
i have been playing the spring hockey invitational over and over recently. it gives about 500-600 pucks per victory with the 500 bonus after the 4th win. thats about 2800 pucks for 4 games or 700 pucks a game when you factor in the championship bonus. its only on pro difficulty so its pretty easy to beat the cpu even with my scrub ahl only team. if you happen to run into an nhl team or a powerhouse national team, you can always sub in your nhl'ers to give you more of a chance.
anywho, the pucks will build up. since each player loses a contract game each game, you lose 20 at a time. if you can manage to keep buying the longer contracts for around 10 pucks per game, then you are spending 200 pucks a game just to keep your contracts up to date. so if you are earning 700 a game, then you keep 500 in profit. that can go to saving up for packs, or it can go to buying guys.
that is my advice as to how i have done it. i am currently 57-4 in all offline games. 2 losses were disconnect issues, and i lost once on rooke and i lost the other day to the blackhawks on pro as i couldn't beat niemi. as for my team, i have about 8 nhl'ers so far. mostly wings i bought off the market. i am slowly using my rare training cards and contract cards on those guys as they sit in my collection. as i mentioned, i use just cheap ahl players to actually play. its a bit redundant, but it works for me.

also, in the spirit of sharing knowledge here are a couple ahl guys i had good success with:
stefan chaput - charlotte checkers; ply C
chaput was one of my first ahl guys out of a random pack and played real well. i paired him up with a couple of fellow charlotte guys but they never really panned out. he played really well with the next guy on my list who is also a playmaker
casey pierro-zabotel - wilkes-barre penguins; ply LW
CPZ has been one of my favorite players so far. he was my best player early on expecially when paired with chaput. i have not tried putting him with any other wbs players though. he has been in a slump lately but produced with a more wide variety of players than chaput.
justin azevedo - manchester monarchs; ply C
azevedo has been my top point producer. up until 2 games ago he has always been paired with other random ahl guys. he was top line center and produced very well. i recently got oscar moller in a pack and he now has a fellow monarch on his line.
those are 3 ahl level guys i highly recommend.
if you have a line of O2 players, vaclav pletka played well for me. hes a snp LW from mountfield.
if you have a DEL line, jeff guliano was good as well. he is a twf RW from iserlohn.
just a few names i thought i would throw out there as having impressed me.

Thanks, dobbles. But except for one offline tournament, I play entirely online. I did sit Hedman for most of my offline stuff. Except after a game I had trouble with Italy. I beat them, but barely. Hedman played the final against SC Bern. 13-0.
Hedman is such a dominant player, I can play against even very good rosters and have a good chance of beating them. I recommend getting a huge defensemen and using most of the upgrades on speed. You will terrorize people.
Good role players I have, Jon Kalinski. Fast, decent everything.
Richie Regehr. Closest thing to a Flame I have. Like a poor man's Giordano, does everything well.
Grant Lewis. Fast, good hands, decent hitting defensemen.

Hey guys,
Just a question for you folks, whenever i play an online tournament (i.e the platitium cup) if i'm up by like 3 goals or so, and the other person quits, do you guys NOT advance to the next round as well? I've had that happened and if and when i get a 2 goal lead, i just sit back and try not to score another goal because i don't want the guy quitting on me.

so i just got my first major penalty in a hut game. i was actually assuming that in this mode they only called minors. with the fun physics of checking this year, its just too much fun to pass up running the computer into the boards. so usually each game i take a few awful penalties. however, i had only gotten minors so far. also i found it was back to nhl09 where once you get 1 called they dont call any more. i have actually been going out of my way to test that and have yet to get 2 penalties at once even when blatently interfering with the cpu after the first call. you guys noticed anything?

i've gotten two penalties on one play. This was in an pro offline tourney against the cpu. It was for elbowing and tripping for two different players, so it was a 5 on 3 for 2 mins.

I don't know if this has already been asked, but how in the hell do you get a 5 star team?
Here's my roster:
Bourque (88) - N Backstrom (91) - Backlund (87)
Moulson (82) - Filppula (82) - Nemisz (84)
Olesz (80) - Brandon Sutter (82) - Hartnell (82)
Howse (71) - Wahl (72) - Cameron (82)
My cap is at 24,980/25,000 so I've pushed it to the max and I'm still only at 4/5 stars.
Does anyone have any good pointers on how to get a 5 star team?

I really need an Xbox.
Don't need any other games to get my money's worth...just NHL (and tv/movie streaming.)

I can get my team up to 4 and a half stars if I play all the right guys. Basically to get up to 5 stars, you need cheap players with high potential (I have Paajarvi, Nugent Hopkins, Couturier). If you boost the cheap players enough, you can basically have a line-up of 90+ guys on the first line, then 85+ throughout the rest...same deal for D. Now, you'd have to be pretty effective when boosting, basically nothing less than a +5.
I don't think I could ever be 5 star because Toews is my only 90+ guy, but I would bet it's possible.

So my playstation signed me out of the network and I can't sign back in. It tells me I have the password wrong (which I don't) and then it gives me an error when I try 'forgot password'
Any ideas?
