I dont know any vegetarians who cram their choice down anyones throat. If someone starts spouting off that eating red meat or eating fast food of any kind is just as good for you, well.....ill have that discussion anyday.
As far as the protein issue goes, there are all kinds of protein powders/shakes out there that seem to cut it for me post workout...but Im not looking to build muscle mass.
Really? I have a lot of friends that get preachy about it.
I'm just not a big fan of processed protein powders. I'm not trying to bulk up either, but I find that chicken or something like almonds works alright for my needs.
I know some vegetarians, most of them are girls with great breasts, so they can preach whatever they want so long as I don't need to maintain eye contact the whole time.

That's the thing though. For someone like myself, who is trying to put on muscle mass, I don't think a vegetarian diet would cut it.
Ya he would have the answers Im looking for. Looks like a quack to me.
and yet he espouses a completely raw vegetarian diet.... http://drbass.com/rawdiet.html
If I was a vegetarian, I might live longer - but why would I want to?
I know you say that half in jest, but I've been thinking somewhat along the same lines.
I've spent the last year improving my diet and exercise regiment. Replaced the french fries with broccoli. Replaced the Doritos with unsalted popcorn. Replaced ice cream with yogurt. And my thoughts? My doctor has given me a clean bill of health, says if I keep it up I should live a good long life.
But I'm thinking I was happier when I was a fat, lazy slob. Now if I ever splurge and have pizza or cheesecake, every bite I take makes me feel guilty and I don't enjoy it.
I have found it amazing how much diet does play a role in our happiness. "Comfort Food" does really affect mental state.

Seriously? I cant take anything you say seriously after a comment like that.
Left field and wayyyyyyyy out of bounds.
Did you really just tell someone they were out of bounds? You? Come on, I have watched you in the past 5 years be the king of out of bounds. Don't try to be sensitive now.

why...because Im an atheist, and proud of it? what an absurd comment.

Ha, no. I never brought that up. Mostly because a lot of your posts in the past have belittled others beliefs. Anyways, if you no longer do that as much, then fine. I just remember you doing quite a bit of jabbing and poking fun in a somewhat mocking tone at others beliefs.
Now go have a marsmallow.

Cheese: good call on not bringing your religious ideas into this thread. It's unfortunate that a lot of people are attacking your eating habits based on your belief system. Those have nothing to do with each other so... why talk about it?
As for the vegetarianism: do you have any evidence to support your claim that Japanese people live longer than other westerners because of their diet? I saw you mention that them being mostly veg's makes them live longer than the rest of us, and maybe I missed your link, but I would argue there are many other factors about why they live longer on average. If this is actually something proven, I'm packing my bags and not eating any more meat.
Also, congrats to anyone who is a vegetarian. I don't think I'd be able to do it, but if it did mean I'd live longer I'd be all for it. My problem is not over meat-eating, but rather over junk eating and not exercising enough.

The only thing I could suggest is: Give it time. Maybe things will change when you get more adjusted to your new lifestyle/new possibilities.
Diet plays a role in happiness sure. A small piece of cheesecake makes me feel a little better for a short while. Too much makes me feel like death for hours.
On the other hand, going for a good tough hike to the top of a mountain makes me feel absolutely great for days/weeks.
I can't be bothered to read through all the crap so I don't know if anyone has brought this up yet but the question in my mind is this:
If the viewer doesn't have the intelligence to know that a fast-food diet is bad for you, how is that same viewer going to make the connection that this commercial is talking about all fast food chains rather than singling one out?
