Try going to Los Angeles or NYC sometime. Or drive down the 101 from SF to SJ. It's stores the. Whole. Way.
I guess you come from buttfata, Alberta if you think Calgary is some sort of retail hotbed.

Box stores in NYC huh? Care to point those out to me? Unless of course you consider the minature Home Depot or Best Buy in a basement to be a box store.
I've lived on 4 continents and a number of major cities and have to agree that Calgary definitely has more than its share of big retail establishments.

I think Mad Mel might be right to a degree. In university, I remember in a Marketing class that Calgary has one of the best demographics in North America for disposible income, gender, ethnicity etc. for retail shopping. It was tops in Canada by far. That's basically all I remember from that class.
This was U of A in Edmonton so I don't think they had any added motivation to praise Calgary.

I'm just talking retail. Not just big box. To say that Calgary has an awesome retail market is simply silly. Christ, SCP + Fashion Island in OC is like Chinook Centre, Southcentre, all of downtown and Mallzac put together.

I see the entire concept of 'per capita' has eluded you.
For the record, I'm not from Alberta, just lived there eight years in my last stint before Australia. Lived in quite a few places, actually. You should try it.

Calgary has lots of options and many many box stores due to its footprint as a city but I think the point being argued is the lack of high end shopping this city has. You can't compare the high end stuff to Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver. That may not be your thing and may not matter to you, but it is the truth.

Who'd of thunk that cities multiple times the size of Calgary would have multiple time the retail outlets. As Mel said, the concept of per capita seems to have eluded you.

I like Lowe's for the Samsung kitchen appliances.
However the garden center at ours sucks. So we go across the street to HD, which has a great garden center at that location.

Personally I shop Windsor Plywood. Granted they are few and far between but they sure know what they are talking about. Well that and they are a smaller Canadian company and ill drive the extra few KM's out of my way to support anything Canadian. I hate HD and Rona with a passion but I do often find myself at a HD for tools and whatnot...something Windsor just does not have.

I was under the impression Rona wasn't Canadian. Aren't they based in Quebec?

I was in the Country Hills Home Depot this past weekend. Within the first five minutes I was offered help and assistance from three staff. That's when I realized the Lowe's must either be open, or close to opening.
