[QUOTE=pylon;2675410]Ukranian Fine Foods on Cleveland Crescent. Place is awesome.

You get a huge cabbage roll, 6 perogies, and a bunch of kielbasa for 7 bucks. Some lunch hours the line up can be pretty big, but it is well worth it. The place is the definition of a dive. Card tables with plastic tablecloths, paper plates, and plastic cutlery. But the food is very authentic, and very filling.[/QUOTE

Love that place. Amazing food. Pretty sure the guy that works the cash has put people in the ground. Don't make eye contact and if he asks you if you want a drink with that.. Just get one.

Paul's Diner in Ramsay is exactly the type of place Guy Fieri would visit on his show. Awesome home made food!

I have eaten at about a dozen of the shows locations and there are very few places in Calgary that would match the ones I have been to.

Have any of you guys eaten at one?

Just curious.

Fortune food on Centre street North and 22nd Ave or so is awesome for dim sum and other tasty treats. Angry service but it's all day (off the menu) dim sum.

I haven't - yet. Next time I go down to the US I need to look up a place he has reviewed and check it out. My next destination down south is Las Vegas... so I need to do some research.

He visits places that have tasty, in-house made foods. Angels is 99% frozen foods.

Nothing neat or unique about that place. Ranks about the same as Peters.

When there are places like The Red Iguana in Salt lake with their 12 kinds of mole or Pok Pok in Portland with the absolute best wings or catfish I have ever had, and anybody I have ever gone with agrees with me, I just can't even consider Peter's.
There is the incredible Chili at Mike's in Seattle it is just amazing too.

Paul's is called The Spillery now and it seriously sucks. The only think it has going for is Minnie the surly waitress. Now The Shamrock on the other hand has some pretty good food.

We ate lunch at Gott's Roadside in St. Helena in the Napa Valley. The place was fantastic! They have another location in San Francisco at the Ferry Building Market in the Embarcadero. Fantastic Burgers, Milk Shakes, etc. Super busy at lunch time but worth the wait.

+1 for Ho Won Salt & Pepper Squid.

I don't think that's the same place. That Paul's been there forever. The Paul's in Ramsay was sold and the new owners operated it as Paul's for awhile before they renamed the place.

Been meaning to grab lunch here for a while. Apparently the best poutine and Montreal smoked meat sandwiches in Calgary.
YES! Get the Montreal Smoked meat POUTINE! Seriously THE BEST poutine I have EVER had. It is kinda pricey...but WELL worth it.

The JESTER is the BEST sandwich they have there.

ps. Not run by Indians. Never seen anything but white people working there.

i love this show so much. guy fieri is my hero!

with that said, here's my entry for best pizza:

vogglio's pizza - seriously the best thin crust pizza i've had in calgary! toppings are high quality, and loaded to the max! 3 pieces and you'll be full. make sure to try the mexicana, and the buffalo, those are my two favorites.
http://www.vogglio.com/

also, i've tried alberta king of subs and to be honest, i didn't think their poutine was all that great for the price. i'd rather goto costco for their poutine. half the price, fries are 10x better, and they actually use real cheese curds at costco. Also, costco's fries stay relatively crispy still with the gravy on it.

I challenge you to try them again, good sir. Always been awesome, when ever I go.

BTW: They use REAL cheese curds.

Almost 40 posts in and no one has been able to name a legitimate Diners Drive-ins and Dives candidate in a city of 1 million. This is a niche just waiting to be fulfilled.

It totally is

My nightly 10pm slot is dedicated to Triple-D, and it always makes me jealous that Calgary has nowhere for reasonably priced, fresh, innovative food.

Not sure what makes Calgary such a wasteland for good food like this.

And no, Rocky's Burger Bus or Holy Smoke would not make it onto Triple-D.

Wow not one mention of Jimmys A&A Deli, best donair in town and amazing baklava. I would say that place could be a candidate.

Serving the same old shwarma/donair menu that 100 other restaurants in town have wouldn't make it onto that show.

Nothing against Jimmy's, but thats not the sort of thing that show is about, nothing innovative or truly unique about that place. I could walk down the block and run into another couple donair places that almost identical.
