What to do with loose change!?

I have all this loose change piling up in a plastic jar! I need to do something with it! I've heard that you can take it to Canadian Tire and throw it into a machine, and they will give you cash (paper) for it? I also heard you can take it to Safeway and they'll give you a gift card of equal value?

I've never seen any of those machines at Canadian Tire or Safeway. Has anyone else? Any other suggestions?

Okay. First, there ARE machines at some CTs and some grocery stores. However, most of these machines take a 10 to 15% cut. You are just giving your money away.

Took 5 minutes to roll my coins this morning and got $268 when the bank opened. I'd be out $26.80 if I used a machine that took 10%. One use about paid for the coin sorter I bought.

Note: Most banks will NOT take coins unless they are rolled.

i recommend throwing some into this AMAZING invention called a pocket and then next time you are buying something, pull some out and use it!



...seriously - lots of businesses don't mind if you pay with change... it saves them a trip to the bank!

There is one of those machines at the Esso station on the corner of 17th ave SE and Deerfoot, at the top of the hill.

Its worth it to me to use that place.

I collect all the worthwall change in a Fruit Jar. Toonies, Loonies, Quarters.

All the small change goes in a huge Flame's piggybank.

I roll it all once a year and take it to the bank. This goes straight into my "fun" account.

I had 280 dollars, last year in change. I used to have even more after a year when I went to college going to bar every weekend and giving girls I thought liked me ridiculous tips for cracking a beer.

As I look back my advice would be don't tip the drink girls, I have YET to know a person to get lucky from tipping huge at club's.

Just grab a handfull and put it in your pocket when you goto Wal-Mart or Superstore for some small items. Then goto the self-checkout and see how fast you can pump in all the change in your pocket without being a bag (you can probably throw in a good $15 in change faster than a grandmother trying to pay with debit on those machines anyway).

You'll be surprised how fast you burn through your coins.

I don't know about up there, but down here our banks have those change machines and they will let you use them free of charge. I'd ask at your local branch.

And make sure to go through them first and file off any Roughriders logos.

I have a jar that I keep on my nightstand for the express purpose of collecting any loose coins I happen to have in my pocket. Every 6 months or so I organize them into coin rollers, take them to the bank, and treat myself to a night on the town.

You'd be surprised how quickly it all adds up.

I use one to store all my loonies and toonies, another for my quarters, another for my dimes and the last one for my nickels. The one with the loonies and toonies I use for the car wash. The others I use for trips to the convenience store.
