it will be interesting to see how this affects landlines in the home when google voice comes out so you have a number as well.
Its still a huge selling point though. If you could sync up ALL your work email, do online word processing, and have it synced up as well, sync up your contacts, plus have one central phone number that can reach you wherever you choose for next to nothing, wouldn't you go for it?

Once Google Voice comes out, Android is gonna be so awesome.

How are they making this available? I am eager to try, but nothing shows up in gmail even with the downloaded addons/plugins.

Can't wait for the day that google starts to scan your call and provide ads based on the subject of the conversation.

It is pretty cool and works well though.

I just got mine a couple min ago. If you have the plugins installed properly, it will come up by itself.

They're obviously pushing it out in a phased deployment.

That is kind of what that "MagicJack" thing does. From their EULA

Maybe someone can dumb this down for me. I have it set for the computer now, but it for some reason doesn't populate on the phone? Is that by design?

I don't think it should show up on the phone.

But, I just setup Google Voice to work here in Canada. For some weird reason, if you have a (403) area code, you can use your own number to make it work.

You just have to use a proxy and stuff to make Google think you're in Canada.

Its pretty cool. I have it setup on my mobile with a San Francisco number, and you have a ton of settings.

My only question would be am I using data when I call with Google Voice, or am I using my minutes up with Telus?

According to this article it does use your minutes, and doesn't go through your data connection.

Still seriously cool though. There are so many features that will make this super appealing once it comes to Canada.

I should mention that if you setup Google Voice in Canada right now through the hacks, you'll have to pay $10 to change your Voice number once it is available in Canada.
