Fire officials said one person died after a tree fell on a car in Queens, the Associated Press reported.

We had softball sized hail last night at my house. A few blocks away they kept a hailstone that was measured today and broke the state record by quite a large margin.

It was raining, but nothing crazy like this as far as I know. What usually tends to happen though in a situation like this is the water gets on the subway tracks and there are major delays everywhere (that's what happens when you have a 100 year old train network)....and you can just imagine what happens when the subway flow stops right when a few million people trying to get home.

Was watching the Mets game last night, and it looked like a beautiful night out but only about 1500 people showed up to the game. Just as I was asking myself WTF nobody showed up (even if it is the Mets), they mentioned tornado warnings in Brooklyn and Queens might have had an impact.

Pretty crazy.

Knowing how much effort it sometimes takes to move a little sappling or bush, I'm always amazed how big massive trees like this can uprooted. Just amazing how much sheer energy these storms contain.

I remember reading that a Category 5 hurricane is the energy equivalent of a hydrogen bomb exploding every minute.

One in Brooklyn (EF-0) and one in Queens (EF-1) coupled with a microburst it seems.

I believe the Picher, Oklahoma tornado a couple years ago was an EF4. Massive damage and on the ground for 2+ hours which is a long long long time for a tornado to be on the ground. The pictures of that are amazing (strips the bark off of trees from some distance).
