Maybe they should be reminded that if someone didn't own two teams and if Braille didn't dump as much of his money into the CFL already, they wouldn't have jobs.

It's also funny that the owner of the Lions and Argos, David Braley, was the Tiger-Cats former owner who still retains season tickets at Ivor Winn.
I agree that having an owner own two teams is an obvious conflict of interest, however if you pay attention to what people say about David Braley, he's been silently keeping the league solvent in times of need. Apparently the reason why he owns both teams is simply because there was little interest in anyone buying either team the last time they were for sale and the league approached him each time to keep the league running. Also there has been word that when owners of other teams have in the past been unable to make salary payments et al, Braley has chipped in to keep the league from crumbling.
That all said, this is a league where when Doug Flutie was not getting paid by the Stamps, they simply made him available to Toronto 'for the good of the league.' This is a league where AJ Gass' diciplinary hearing was heard by a judge with Edmonton Eskimos season tickets. This is a league where they allowed Edmonton to trade away their backup QB for a running back, but let them retain both player's usage through a sucessful Grey Cup challange where said QB played the crucial role in allowing them to win the West Semi and West Final. .

Pretty strange day for CFL. Eric Tillman got hired by the Eskimos. He is definitely a good GM but I am sure about the PR thing. Rodriguez got cut and Dorsey put on a nine-game injured list. I thought I heard some Rider fans saying Rodriguez is an awesome receiver that's why I am surprised. After they released Rodriguez, Riders signed Bryce-Mullen. Then to top it off, Ricky Foley agreed to come back to BC Lions only to changed his mind and signed with the Argos instead. What's next?
|
It would probably just be a deal for the rest of the season and makes sense in a way as Calgary is the best chance for him to win a GC this year. As good as things are with Reynolds and Cornish you can never have enough Canadian talent at the skill positions plus Lumsden has performed well on special teams which has been the teams weakness this year. To me this would mean the team is loading up to win.

Great post. There is a reason the Eskimos were referred to as the Evil Empire or the Campbell Football League and that's because of years of shady dealings behind the scenes. It's obviously not a great thing to have one man own two teams but it's a necessity to keep the 8 team league in business until a buyer comes forward for the Lions.

Oh it needs to be said....when the Riders traded NI Adam Nicolson and a pick to Hamilton for Rodriguez, every Rider fan on here and that I know said it was such a great trade. Rodriguez is a difference maker, etc. etc.
Now the team deems Rodriguez so poor that they cut him and still have to pay him, lost two Canadian players for nothing, and axing him was a good move.
Which is it Rider fans? Admit it...you lost that trade.

Toronto has brought back Justin Medlock and Walter Curry. Grant Shaw is sticking with the team but no word on what happens to Jamie Boreham.

I think he either ends up in Regina or Montreal.

The Riders didn't lose the trade. They don't need Nicolson. Riders just signed Grice-Mullen who is a receiver returner and they have Regina born Sisco waiting in the wings.
The stupid part is why Dorsey and Rodriguez weren't released 2 weeks ago. The Riders just wasted a ton of cap space. I'm sure they saved a bit of space putting Dorsey on the 9 game IR but he should have been released weeks ago.
Rodriguez's sallary probably means the Riders will go over the cap is they sign Baggs. Although I'm not an expert on the CFL CBA, there may be a provision for extra space for NFL cast-offs.
Good for the rest of the CFL though.

Rod Pederson said on his talk show Stevie Baggs is getting the best offers from the East. Rod said he got that straight from Stevie via text. Chima Ihekwoaba Montreal draft pick has been axed by Detroit not sure if that changes anything.

Problem is if they sign him, they will need to get rid of somebody.

Heck and back? Are you freaking kidding me? The man paid no time for his crimes, and he was sitting there crying like he was the vitcim. He has no place being back in the CFL after what he did. The Eskimos are a disgrace.

Or maybe the league should figure out a way to get a measly 8 separate ownership groups, or just stop wasting everyone's time and call it a day.
One guy owning two teams makes it very tough to take the CFL seriously.

That's fine but if I were a player in the league, I would not be saying that.

CFL is not wasting my time and I take them seriously.
The Ricky Foley fiasco is actually the first one that was questionable so far but I see his reasoning in signing with the Argos. I am not saying I condone it but having to play in your hometown is one of the best thing an athlete are hoping for. BC Lions just learned a good lesson here. Do not assume a player will sign with your team until he sign the contract.

Looks like RB Jesse Lumsden is indeed Calgary-bound; look for Canadian to sign practice-roster deal #CFL #calstampeders

I don't get it unless they think they can't hold on to Cornish next year.

How tight are the Stamps up against the cap?!? What kind of penalties (fines/loss of draft picks) could they incur for going over the cap?
Thanks for any help with these questions, guys...
