Is it really incompetence when we might have lost a guy for nothing who played only 2 NHL games in his whole career? We've waived better players than that and lost them. Losing St. Louis might be incompetence. Losing Ryan Bast? Pretty irrelevant I'd say.

That's easy to say in retrospect, but at the time he was pretty big news as a prospect.

Probably partially due to how bad the Flames were and how few good prospects we had.

I followed our prospects back then and I don't think he was as good of a prospect as Pelech, Negrin, Brodie, Erixon, etc are now.

Like I said, pretty irrelevant. Even at the time we got a 3rd rounder back, which if you include retrospect makes that deal actually look pretty good on the GM at the time.

Hard to call a GM incompetent for getting a 3rd rounder for a player who was a total non-factor in the NHL only logging 2 career games.
