Thumbs down 'Rider Loonies

I got a loonie coin yesterday which commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. As a good Stampeder fan, I dealt with it accordingly:

It is offensive to me to put a professional sports team logo on Canadian currency, and I plan to take a file to every 'Rider and 'Habs loonie I get my hand on.

What's next? The Golden Arches to celebrate the 75th anniversary of McDonald's first Canadian restaurant? While I hope to live to the year 2080, I would not want to see a Flames logo on regularly circulated currency. A national symbol should not be used to celebrate a regional event. I don't even think the Canadian mint should have put out that $14.95 quarter with the Flames logo that they sold out of the post office a couple of years ago.

Discuss.

P.S.: Yes, I am aware that it is against the law to deface Canadian currency. I am a bit of an outlaw, and the chicks love a badboy like me. You might even earn yourself a 'Rider loonie by calling me into Crime Stoppers!

Have you lost it? You seriously filed down a loonie because it had the Riders on it? I feel really bad for you if you think people are going to think you're cool for doing this.

Saskatchewan has very little to get excited about in life. This loonie move was done so strictly to give them something to get excited about. Good on the government for giving out the national equivalent of a 'participation' ribbon.

There's going to be 3 million of these. If you're planning on destroying every one you come accross, depending on how much change you handle that could be a rather expensive venture.

3 loonies per resident of Saskatchewan seems excessive to me.

When I opened a thread called "'Rider loonies", I didn't think it was going to be about money.

No, I still have the coin. I'll probably spend it in the next day or two.

Yes. I wasn't checking to see if there was chocolate inside or anything like that.

Uhm, the Bluenose was a regional ship. It made Nova Scotia famous for ship building. Have you been defacing dimes for your entire life?

My favorite was the bank sending McMahon all Rider loonies for the previous game. It was funny.

I addressed the quarter issue in the OP. The 'Habs and 'Riders loonies are in general circulation. Noine of these coins should ever have been minted.

The OP is as big of a folk hero as that Jet Blue flight attendant.

IANAL and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but isn't it only a crime to deface currency to the point where it's unrecognizable. I can still tell that's a loonie - hell, I can still even make out the logo. As far as I can tell, what you've done isn't a crime.

Time to step up your game if you really want to make the chicks of CP swoon.

The only loonie I'm seeing is...

Just kidding. Mostly. It just seems like a strange thing to get bent out of shape over.

Hey, a franchise lasting for 100 years is a pretty big accomplishment in a country as young as Canada. An even bigger feat, considering the population base in those parts.

The only fail by the Mint was failing to recognize the 13th man.

Remember the Seinfeld episode where George is acting like a rebel, gets busted for pirating a movie and ends up crying in the police station at the end of the show? Yeah, this is nothing like that!

You could probably find a rider fan that would buy that loonie for $2.
