Default Bell sent two iPhone 4's, What do?

I gleefully receive my iPhone 4 in the mail on Thursday. Very exciting! iPhone and iPad sharing the same plan, yay!

SCREECH. They say I need to make a deposit to add the second line (iPad) which was never mentioned to me in my initial calls and nulls the whole reason I switched from Rogers to Bell.

I call Bell, complain nicely and as I've gone up the chain of command not one person has been willing to help except for "100 extra minutes each month for three months" which I don't need nor want.

HERE'S THE RUB. I check the mail today, see a pick up tag, head over to the Post Office and what do I receive?

A second iPhone 4.

What do?

Hold it hostage?

You should give it to the first person to respond to you in this thread

But seriously you should probably notify them and they will hopefully be grateful and give you something in return for the iphone. Also since it is registered mail i would not be surprised if they would charge your account for it, if you did not give it back.

1 Go get it added to your plan (don't forget to have them waive the activation fee.)
2 Sell it to Ducay for $1200.
3 ???
4 Profit

the same thing happened to me a few years ago. I had order an IBM laptop and ended up receiving 2 of them within a week. I held onto the 2nd laptop until they contacted me 2 months later. I kept it BNIB and simply returned it when they provided the postage paid mailing instructions. I've had enough bad experiences with returning items that I wasn't going to make it easy. There was one time I returned a digital camera to Dell and got confirmation from UPS that it was delivered and signed for. However, Dell wouldn't give me a refund because they "lost" the camera after receipt. It took me 3 months to get my money back and was only successful when I finally looked up and sent e-mails to a couple of VP's at Dell. So...keep it BNIB until they either contact you for return or charge your for it. I would bet that you got yourself a new phone...

Amazon once send me two box sets of the Simpsons when I only ordered one. Having no need for two copies of the same season, I promptly went to their website, filled out an RMA form, and sent a copy back for a full refund.

Obviously you can't do this with your iPhone (as you need to have a plan and such on it). As well, Amazon didn't use registered mail, so tracking wasn't an issue either.

Your best bet is to hang onto is brand new in the box and wait to see if Bell notices.

I'd tell them about it and return it. Maybe your goodwill gesture will wok in your favour.

Right. Bell is well known for rewarding a goodwill gesture. Only thing you could possibly get from returning it is positive karma.

Alright, Ducay, return yours you just got and it's yours for $1200!

I'm torn. If they weren't being the worst company to deal with, no question I'd return it right away. I can't believe how much these big corporations with bad reputations continue to not give a rats arse about the consumer, thus perpetuating their bad reputation.

I think I may keep it as an ace in my pocket if no one is willing to help.

Interestingly enough I happened to come across all the executive's emails and phone numbers on Consumerist.

I'm with Fotze on this one.

(removed broken Youtube link)

Edit- well apparently I suck at embedding videos.

Edit2- When I say "I'm with Fotze", I am saying keep in BNIB but wait for Bell to contact you. I could see you return it, then they notice the mistake and bill you, then refuse to reverse the charges. Each time you call in to have the $800 reversed they will say "you will see it on your bill in 6-8 weeks."

Not sure when it happened - but the embedding seems to have changed. Now all you need are the opening/closing youtube tags with the youtube video id and nothing else.

So, for this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmEDbTi7XOs

The id is: GmEDbTi7XOs

Quote this post to see for yourself.

And to stay on topic - keep the phone until Bell contacts you about it. If they never contact you, then sell it in a few months. Bell's my cell phone provider, and I'm all for them getting screwed over in any and every way possible.

I think it's worth pointing out that one of the posters in this thread has reported this post saying he will be reporting it to the police; and has made an accusation of theft.

That user needs to understand that some of us are responding somewhat "tongue in cheek" in attempts to be funny.

The bottom line is that Bell has gone back on their word, (which they often do), and now has made an error in the OP's favour. The OP is asking the best way to handle the situation.

If you wish to accuse somebody of theft, you better make sure you have your facts in order.

Don't worry, looks like someone already backtraced the OP and reported him to the cyberpolice
