Quickest Route to Radium

I find Google Maps to be better at estimating travel times. It has the Crowsnest route at 5:23 and the Calgary route (via Glenmore) at 5:50. So not that much of a difference.

Of course, factor in some of the things that others have mentioned (single vs. dual carriageway for a significant portion, parks speed limits, scenery, traffic, etc.).

Another consideration is that Glenmore and 37th has the potential to be a gong show. Early Saturday morning they are opening the interchange there. I assume that the changes will be done overnight and by Saturday morning everything should be fine. Should be... Unless you're going up on Friday night, then the point is moot.

Thanks guys lots of good information. That whole spruce meadows thing kind of makes me change my mind. Maybe I'll go the Fernie route, I never seem to mind that drive as it's something I don't really do as much as the Calgary drive and Banff drive.

trip is basically heading north west, so throwing in a 100km heading south is very debatable.

I know the slowest way......Stop at Wasa Lake (beach), Fort Steele (random), Sparwood (worlds largest truck), Fernie (shops), Frank (interpretive centre), Black Diamond (Marv's classic soda shop). 2.5 hours to get there the quick way, and we easily took 6 hours to come back around the other way....very relaxing drive though...
Straight driving time it would likely be closer to 2.5 hours the Banff way and 3 to 3.5 the Fernie way....

If you're driving slow enough on 93 to 'enjoy' the scenery you're driving too slow.

Well, if you go the posted 90, you can take in the scenery pretty well. I've driven the Calgary-Invermere drive about a dozen times this summer and still enjoy it every time. No idea how many times I've driven it or been a passenger on it in 35 years, but I'm sure it's in the hundreds.

I'd recommend the Crowsnest route myself - that's a beautiful drive as well. Either way, you're in for great scenery and a fun drive, as I'm sure you know.
