OMG - that's great. Face-off loop has been plaguing for months - hopefully they have the fix.

As with all new editions, I think this one is going to be more about getting rid of NHL10 habits and learning the new way of the game.
I was getting a ton of tripping/slashing penalties the first day, upped my stick checking to 90+ and I'm no longer getting penalties.

Hits require strength and body checking. If you are getting penalties while hitting, up discipline.

Game play is highly dependant upon your build this year I've found. You can't be a jack of all trades without a higher card (ie. legend) + boosts.

i find that to be the case as well. your ratings do really limit your abilities. which is good news because the tiny little forwards that could check and shoot and fly and everything else won't be so effective. however, it does kinda suck that without pumped up stats, you really gotta have someone lined up perfect to check them solidly.

Picked it up yesterday.

First thing I noticed in GM mode was that other teams were offering picks as part of their deals. I don't remember that happening in NHL 10.

Game play is great and I like the hitting physics. Lots of broken sticks and still a learning curve but I'm enjoying it thoroughly. Maybe I'll dole out the cash soon to renew my online subscription.

EDIT: I also thoroughly enjoy the RFA added aspect of GM mode. I had an assumption that this would be part of the new NHL so I'd say my expectations have been matched thus far.

This is good news to me. I was tired of being laid out from someone completely out of position in previous years.

So far NHL 11 > NHL 10, theres not one big change that smacks you in the face that people expect but the improvements are in the details. I am really enjoying the new physics engine and the hits are great, hip checks rule and I love that there are not just all canned animations. Another area in which I see some great improvments is in the 1 timers, 1 timers from the half board actually work this year and you can get a nice shot off, great for an option on the PP. The game looks similar but I notice a definate change in the load times which seem to be much faster than NHL 10.

HUT is great, reminds me of when I was a kid and I would collect cards and put together lines and teams with the cards, however, in NHL 11 I can actually play a game with the cards. The points system is something I like for buying packs. It works for both casual and core players as it gives core players a reason to play games to get points and makes HUT not get old fast, and for casual gamers they can buy packs without spending hours playing to have a good team.

I haven't had time to go into any online modes or be a pro but be a GM this year seems nicely improved as far as draft picks and prospects go. It's nice to be able to trade a couple years picks or get a teams future picks in a trade.

So far I am really enjoying NHL 11 and dont really have any complaints about it. In my opinion EA has tried to give the core fans what they have been asking for (realistic hockey simulation) while still having a game in which casual fans can pick up and enjoy.

Word.

I have really been using my upgrades to focus on a specific area in my game that I utilize the most.

Been very beneficial.

Except when I had 90 discipline and took 3 penalties in a game.

Started my Be A GM as the Flames, I traded Glencross and Staios to the Oilers for their first round overall draft pick, all so I could draft Hall.

I didn't think that trade would be accepted.

I haven't myself, but it has been reported on the EA forums. There is also a glitch where your goalie doesn't show up at all. That one was reported to have happened in the Bronze cup.

I'm playing offline till I can get a decent team, and (knocks on wood) nothing to report yet.

Also, a contract tip. Once you have 16 games or more on a players contract you can't stack any more contract cards. Don't know if anyone has mentioned that yet.

ya that happened too me 3 times today, which was annoying. It's dumb, i was up 3-0 in the 3rd period playing HUT against the computer, yet if xbox loses internet connection you lose pucks, the game, and a game off all your contracts.
