Oklahoma (A-1 Carbonic) MoonDawgs Winter Season
Well the other thread was 7 pages long and cluttered so I figured I would start a new thread...
Winter Season starts Sunday. We have a sponsor which is nice. We play those Tripods in the 1st game.. surprise, surprise eh?
We had a few people quit because Hockey wasnt for them . We replaced them with friends from high school so we at least have a team that likes each other! It should be a fun season and I will post some videos soon!

Make sure you bring beer to every game. It makes the experience much more enjoyable to down a couple of brewskies after a win/blow out loss.
You can also sell them to your guys and make a little money (assuming you get paid, of course). 2 beers for 5 bucks, and with the price of liquor in the states you could make a fortune selling cold keystones afterwards.

No beers allowed in the rink... Unless they are smuggled. Mainly because the rink sells beer in the snack bar. Im not much of a drinker anyway but we usually try to do a couple tailgates a year and drink tons in the parking lot. We invite all the other teams as well. We bring a grill , some hamburger patties, hot dogs, and Brats and we have a great time. I think this is why we are the rink favorite when it comes to like-able teams . Free food and beer goes a long way eh?

i hope you have a great season
i enjoyed being updated with your posts last year!
my men's team season starts tomorrow night - should be another fun season for the kelowna colts!!
so you're allowed to have players from 2 divisions higher play for you - wow.... we're allowed to have guys from 1 division higher - that's it. what happens in the playoffs?? for our league the player is only allowed to play for one team in the playoffs - his choice.

Well the championship last season was between the Tripods and the Hawks. The hawks won in OT . The Tripods captain ( who works for the rink and runs the league) starting crying a bitching about illegal players who played on 2 teams etc ... remember he also used this practice quite often. So the hawks said whatever , here you can have the title.
So really rules are dependent on how the effect the League manager team. But oh well it is the only option of playing so we grin and bear and have fun!

it is frustrating when a rec team loads up on players for a playoff run - but at the end of the day it is just rec hockey....personally i'd be a little chapped if my team told me not to come out for the playoffs 'cuz they were bringing in some hired guns....

First game today, even though it was a preseason game and doesn't count on the record. .... we lost 5-3 to the Tripods. The thing is they had a Division 2 guy who doesnt play on their team . He was just helping them out and was the only one who moved the puck for them. We are actually better than the Tri-pods now, at least in this game. Awesome game .. We out hustled them , out shot them , and really looked greatly improved from last year.
.. I might add I had my first 2 goal performance of my hockey career! I am pretty stoked!

I don't think there is beer allowed in any rink dressing room, but that doesn't stop us or anyone from drinking after a game!

Yeah, every rink in Calgary has a no alcohol rule, but we drink in literally every arena. Most rinks in Calgary subsribe to the "don't make a mess and stay too long and we won't notice your beer" rule, and with the couple Nazi rinks, we just pack up our empties when we leave.

Yeah, NESS was the worst there for a while. They had a rink rat that would actually barge in on the dressing room looking for beer and then give a big lecture about calling the cops and yada yada yada.
Now they have some different people who are indifferent as long as you don't make a mess, like flameswin said.

Well we played the Canadian Air Force today. Man those guys are pretty damn good. We got beat 11-5. I was not a part of this ass-whoopin as I was sick all weekend and was still ill come game time. I will say that it was 2-1 after the first and 5-1 after the 2nd. They had a 17 year old showboat ( his dad is in the AF) who stood at the blueline and just took breakaway pass after breakaway pass from his brother... dude had some serious dangles though.

Nice.
I'm playing two leagues this year. One in Springfield, Missouri (C League) and then getting my butt kicked every week in Springdale, Arkansas. The Springdale league takes everybody so is an odd mix of crap (like me) and guys who have played university and pro at some level. By the time I get to where the play is, it has gone back the other way! In only a few try out games my skating has definitely improved.

Hey guys.. I just got approached via email today (im guessing from Ok MoonDawgs blog) by a writer from a pretty big Oklahoma Culture blog. They want to come to a future game in the near future to interview me and take some pics. They want to ask me about hockey, why I chose hockey and what I think about the future of hockey here in Ok.
Just wanted let you know that I will make sure there is a link to Calgarypuck mentioning how you guys were an integral part in getting the team started and how so many people were willing to help by donating advice, gear, and even money , most without even knowing me personally. Just wanted to let you know I plan on giving credit where credit is due!
I will link to the article when it is written.

Well we are scheduled to play the tripods again today!! Ridiculous. Why are we playing the same team on weeks 1 and 3 when there are 7 other teams in this league? Stupid. To add insult to injury the Tripods got new jerseys. They are Dark blue and ours are purple. We had ours the 1st time we played them and they were wearing their pink jerseys. THey got the new jerseys in weeks 2. When I saw we had to play them this week. I had to call the DICK who runs the league and plays for the pods. I asked that they wear their pink jerseys as dark blue and purple jerseys could be a bit tough to handle in the same game. He told me to get F'ed and if anyone would be wearing different jerseys it would be us. I pointed out we only had purple and they wore pink just a week ago. His response: "tough "
Should be an exciting day lol!
ohh and the blog moved... to Moondawgshockey.com

Well lost 4-1 . They scored 3 in the first. League manager is a dick. Middle of third period me and my buddy , who the tripods recruited away from us for this season, hit each other. It was an accident as he turned into me and i just stood my ground.I apologized and we both got back to playing. I turn my back to go after the puck. Turns out the league manger came off the bench and tackled me from behind and tried to rip my helmet off. We have this all on video. He skates up makes sure he gets behind me and just attacks me. Pretty dick move ,but to have a guy not face me like a man and do it from behind is what makes it more disturbing.
I am going and talking to the guy who runs the rink. As of right now Andrew, who is the dick league manager, doesn't have a suspension and the refs said he does not get one. I am gonna suggest a season penalty since this isn't is first offense. I will also suggest if that suspension doesn't fly that maybe they be moved to division 3.
We are just tired of dealing with these guys getting everything because they work there. Its getting dangerous and not any fun.
