I guess if you are staying in a 1 Star resort.
Ive never had an issue with food or AC....far superior to Mexico in my mind.

the Riu resorts a probably some of the best for family's. We just booked our trip with them and they have some good promo's going on. Tak a look at www.bookit.com. You'll find great deals for sure. Also, go all inclusive - it really is the only way.
(as for the Palace Resort comment earlier. I got married at the Moon Palace in Mayan Riviera - by far the best resort I've been to. It can be pricey but if you can get a deal - TAKE IT!)

My family and I really enjoyed Dreams Resort in Puerto Vallarta.
Food was great, service was great, and Puerta Vallarta has the best weather in Mexico.

Also, the worst ocean for swimming, unfortunately...Lots of places in that area where the currents are too strong to swim, and there are a tonne of jelly fish. I prefer the Caribbean side myself.
Otherwise, I prefer the eastern Caribbean, I really like Nassau and key West if you wanna stay in America-Land.

I will vouch for the Riu chain as well.
We got married at the Riu Vallarta in Nov. 2008, and went to the Riu Cancun for our 1 year anniversary last year. They were both fantastic, and we'd go back to a Riu in a heartbeat. We actually talked about it last night...

I was just looking online as I am thinking of an Xmas vacation with the woman.
Another question: book now or go for last minute deal (since we are very flexible on this matter)

Glad to hear about the Moon Palace. I am getting married there in just over a month yikes! Looking at the current prices it looks like we got a steal of a deal.

If you are based in TO then you might be able to get away with a last minute vacation.
In Calgary I find there is nothing but garbage left and no real special to boot.

Was that the older Dreams (South of the old down town) or the new one (Dreams Villamagna in Riviera Nayarit)? My wife and I stayed at the old one last April and really enjoyed it, but I don't know if it would be all that good for kids. For adults who's idea of a good time is to lay by the beach/pool all day and read books and then go out for a nice meal it was great!
We have also twice stayed at the Palladium Vallarta (about 1 hour north west of the PV airport along the coast) and I think that it would be better (and cheaper) for a family with children. It is pretty isolated so not a good choice if you want to go see the area, but if you want to just stay at the resort it was fine. It is also probably one of the cheapest 4 to 4.5 star resorts in Mexico that I have found. We went during Easter (which is a bit more expensive than usual) for around $1100-$1200 per person.

I met my Fiancee at the Barcelo Maya resort in the Mayan Riveira. It was a great place, however it is the same spot that those people were killed at a few years ago...so I don't know if I would go back there.

We went for a wedding with 60 people just over 6 months after the killing, not sure why you'd feel unsafe there that killing could happen at any resort.
OMG, now I'm scared to go anywhere at an all inclusive too, damn you!

I was there a month after the attack as I booked last second and didn't pay attention till it was booked.
I was on the hotel forum page and when it happened the guests at the time had no idea till they got home.
It was fine for security when I went and it is probably ok now as there have been 10's of thousands of guests since and nothing to speak of.
I cant help but think there was a reason beyond wrong place wrong time for their deaths.

Its not so much being scared about getting killed, I just wouldn't want to stay in the room where it happened, which is creepy IMO.
I'm going to Mexico in November for a wedding, so it isn't a safety issue. More of a heebie jeebies issue.

I was wondering that the whole time I was there too.
It was at the Caribe section.

And if you look to your left, right next to your jacuzzi tub, you can see a complimentary chalk outline.
No thanks.

+1 for Bahia Principe Tulum.
My cousin got stabbed on the beach in Domincan Republic (Sosua). The disco was swarming with hookers and pimps when I was there.
In Cuba, my friend caught a Marlin. He got a picture with it, then the government confiscated it to provide to the public.

People die way more often in resorts than you think, of course natural deaths.
People have probably died in the pool you are swimming in, on that beach, possibly in your hotel room.
Did I heebie jeebie you up more now lol
