He was good enough to be the starter of an elite NCAA team. He may never play another pro game after tonight. Way out of his league.
You don't give up on a guy after his first start. Remember how bad Calvillo was in his initial starts with the Ti-Cats? It's a different game up north and it takes some playing time for a QB to adjust. Toronto has done it the right way in sticking with Lemon while he learns rather than go with a retread CFL QB. You have to give them some time to get used to the nuances of the Canadian game.
On the other hand I've seen enough of Lulay this year to think he doesn't have what it takes with his 2nd pick in just over a quarter. If he started the game this one could have been a barn burner.
Eskimos LB TJ Hill running his mouth about Nik Lewis - Here's a tip TJ, if you don't like Nik's TD celebrations, how about stopping him before he reaches the endzone?
I thought they could have gotten more than a second, but hey, in the CFL this year that means it will probably be a top 11 (or I guess top 13 if Ottawa is back next year) pick. Good choice to not let it get to be too much a distraction and move him now.

2nd and 4th if he resigns with the Lions.
I agree the Stamps had to move the guy.... obviously was not accepted by his fellow team mates... big surprise.
The pick is probably going to be 9th overall which is basically a first-rounder.
Not surprised Buono refused to give up the No. 1 overall for a guy like Newman. Stamps fans were probably dreaming if we thought we'd get that return, considering Newman was only a 3rd overall pick to start off with.

The Lions also could have a deal in place today for rookie wide receiver Shawn Gore, who attended the Als game. Gore's agent, Darren Gill, reported progress in contract talks on a minimum two-year deal.
Meantime, Ricky Foley and Martell Mallett were cut by the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles respectively Friday but it will be Sunday before either player clears waivers. A practice roster spot for both players is still a possible outcome.
Jesse Newman has been traded to the Lions of British Colombia for a 2nd rd draft pick and a future 4th round pick he the Lions sign him to a extension.

Ottawa's renovated stadium likely won't be ready until 2013. Construction won't even begin until next summer.

Probably the best that could have come from the situation. If he couldn't sit on the team somewhere and be accepted, best to get rid of him. Even if he did sit this year, I doubt Nik Lewis and the guys who didn't want him here were just going to forget about it.
The guy must have some maturity issues or something if he decides to quit 2 days before camp to go hang out in BC. If that's the case, might be better not to have him on the team.
The O-Line has played well this year, and Huff has rewarded them by saying that even though this kid was a first round pick and won a grey cup, he's not going to take over your spot and what you've fought for so far this year.
I just hope it doens't bit us down the road because of his age. He's young and a lot of our guys are getting up there. We will need to replace some of these guys in the next couple of years. Laz and Comesky and such.
But basically we got something for nothing. The guy quit, and we all thought that was the end of it. He comes back and the attitude is obviously not there and the team is rolling, we trade him and get a pick out of it. Just don't really like trading him to a divisional rival.
I agree with Worth in that the Stampeders essentially got something for nothing as Newman did retire and wasn't going to be part of the team. However what bugs me is that Newman screwed the team by retiring at the end of camp and then decided he wanted to play for the Lions and got his wish. It would have been nice if the Stamps dealt him to an Eastern team just to stick it to him but probably not too many teams were high on a flaky guy like him and the word was probably out that he wanted to stay in BC. I would imagine that the DL will be fired up the next time they play the Lions.
Dude when it comes to the Canucks, it could be a team of Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, Augusto Pinochet, Josef Stalin and Kim Jong Il and if one of them scores against the Canucks you take it.
