That's like asking, why do people talk on forums at all?
Because people find it interesting to discuss. Duh.

I completly agree if only the internet had a huge database of topics you like to go into rather than comment in ones that you don't.
So little choices on the internet, some day it will catch on and there will be lots of choices.

It only makes sense that conservative libertarian's take this up. 'Either make it equal, or abolish altogether.'

Excellent input, we should bring this up to the mods on the board. "Specific topics banned from the Off Topic section: Politics, Religion, and Random Thoughts."

Just so I got this straight. It is ok to be a part of these topics that you have been a part of or created.
Fruits and Vegtable recipes
Trapped miners in Chile
have you Been to pacific Rim National Park
Boating in the Okanagan
Hottie teacher likes young uns
Visiting the UK
Chinese Food recipes
Prince of Pot extradited
Elderly Parents
Should I go on?
Or are all of these topics right up the alley of Calgary Flames fans?
It appears you are the wise one to make all of the choices so I guess in the future we should all send our thread choices for your approval.
Thanks for the heads up!! Your the best!!!

I think it's great that posters here are interested in American politics. Most Americans (at least the ones I know) are totally clueless about Canadian politics.
I remember one poster in the Presidential election thread said when America sneezes, Canada gets a cold so why not diiscuss our politics?

At the risk of re-railing this thread, I'd say that the GOP will have a hard time selling a pro-gay-marriage stance to the intolerant masses and, in fact, won't even try. Why alienate their ever so reliable base?

Considering you've been on this forum for only a few months, maybe making demands on how it's run might not be appropriate.

Forums are for posting your thoughts, not things you think are facts because you type them.

I don't know. I think people overestimate the fundamental sect of the GOP.
Being a conservative should be all about less government intrusion, and that is exactly what supporting gay marriage is all about.
If the GOP wants to ever live up to their 'small government, fiscally responsible' idea, or theory, this is a good place to start.

Fair enough. But the GOP has made great efforts to brand themselves as the party of God, and their most vocal and public supporters invoke religion constantly. I have a hard time imagining them moving away from this now, risking a vocal and public backlash.

The GOP is still a long way from being able to back gay marriage, the evangelicals have a ways to go before they can let this issue go.

... and look where it's got them. Tone down the over the top religiousness and actually try some of this fiscal conservatism, small government thing and maybe they'll get somewhere... Besides, where are the super religious and the bigots going to go? Re-elect Obama? For the foreseeable future, the GOP has that segment of society locked in even if the party decides to drift more towards centre and/or reality.

They're the bloc with the highest proportion of voter turn-out and grassroots organization IIRC.
I doubt they'd go blue. I think they'd just abstain from voting to a greater degree - disastrous for the GOP.

Next presidential election they'll be out in force for the GOP, even if the party drifts a little more towards the centre to appeal to a wider base. They'll still unite to get that <insert racist slur> sekrat muslin communist nazi out of the white house.
