Machiavelli (Diplomacy varient). Frakkin' fantastic game.
Ticket to Ride. Fun 'thinking while drinking' game. Good social game.
Carcassonne. Amazingly fun game. Good family night game.

TALISMAN!!!! (Good luck finding one though)
Talisman is easy to find (it's in print by Fantasy Flight Games), unless you're specifically looking for an older edition.

I'm excited for the new D&D board games that they're releasing, starting with Castle Ravenloft. It was just released, but I'll be waiting until September sometime to buy a copy. It's a co-op dungeon crawl with very stripped down D&D rules. You can complete a game in about an hour, which I'm happy about since I don't want to sit all afternoon and evening playing something too often.

Any other board game fans on CP? If so, what are some of your favorites? Axis & Allies still ranks at the top of my list, even if it does take a bloody day to set-up.
Stratego a pre-chess Napoleonic strategy game.

A North American intro to Chess that has now taken off. I keep introducing it to the kids here in Japan and they love it. Went to Manila and found 15 serious variants of the game. Metal figure to various genres.

Settlers of Catan is my game. I actually almost got a free trip to Germany out of it as I won the Ottawa tournament and lost out in a one game winner take all Eastern Cdn championships

I guess I'm the only one who did not enjoy Settlers of Cataan (and I won). It just felt that it was too easy to gang up on the person who was in the lead.
I own:
Roborally - fantastic game when lots of people are playing (up to 8) this is the one we usually break out when there is a big group
Twilight Struggle - great 2 player game, lots of strategy and you get to play out the cold war
St Petersburgh - Simple 2-4 player game, pretty fun while not too complicated
Puerto Rico - I really enjoy this game, the wife absolutely hates so we don't get a chance to play it that often.
Backgammon - love this game, although it's tough to find decent opponents unless you want to play for money.

I'd like to learn Roborally. Have it, but have not played it yet.

I find with Settlers it is usually fairly obvious what you should do each turn. Hot/cold dice can ruin a well-played game. Some couples work together, and imbalance the game. Some players give out hidden information that they should not.

When I was a kid, I loved Mouse Trap.
Of course, I cared more about building the trap than I did about playing the game...but whatever.

I'm surprised that with the election in full swing no one's mentioned either 1960: The Making of a President or Campaign Manager 2008.

Hah - I was just coming on to post this one! Ticket to Ride Europe is much better than the original one that goes across the US. My friend has the Switzerland expansion pack for TTR Europe and she loves it - you don't count trains, just go for routes only.

We really need a war board game night that combines scotch, cigars and a board game that allows you to conquor the world.

I find this too. We played with one couple who does this. We kept hearing how the wife was the best at this game. I caught on to this pretty quick that she always won because they played together. So I started playing that way with my wife. My wife won, and my buddies wife was pissed.

It takes away from the game if it isn't every person for themselves.

Memoir '44 is probably the funnest war game "lite" out there. It doesn't take a year to learn, and can be set up real quick-like.

Has anyone played Claustrophobia? I've been thinking about buying it, but I'm not sure. I love co-operative dungeon-crawl games, but I've never played Space Hulk. People say Claustrophobia is a Space Hulk killer, though, so I am not sure which I should get in the future.
