BBC Exonerates Israel: Death in the MED
All I have to ask is.....did the entire BBC staff get the ax and replaced? This is two in two weeks. Where is the hardcore leftist BS? Next they will take on the Goracle for all I know.
Death in the Med.
On 16 August 2010 BBC Panorama broadcast ‘Death in the Med’, a carefully detailed investigation into Israel’s raid of the Mavi Marmara, the only ship of the Free Gaza flotilla that became the site of a deadly confrontation between passengers and naval commandoes. Presented by Jane Corbin, the half-hour programme included a raft of new video and radio footage of the event, taken from both the Israeli Navy and from confiscated passenger tapes, most of which were recorded by members of a website called CulturesOfResistance.org. This new footage enabled Corbin to piece together the most comprehensive sequence of events of the night of May 31. (See below for both a full transcript of the programme and the broadcast itself.)
During the programme, Corbin expanded on three key points:
1. That the IDF had faced a violent assault from activists;
2. That the attack had been pre-meditated by a ‘hardcore’ group of activists;
3. That this core was organised by the Turkish Islamist charity, the Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (IHH).
Unfortunately the videos are UK only. At the bottom of the article there is a transcription of the program

I'm not too suprised that the BBC would run that story. They are a left leaning news source and has readily agknowledged that in the past. But their goal has never seemed to control politics like most of the news organizations in the States and Canada do. They still have ethics.

If this is any indication, hopefully!!!, they are moving back to being a hard hitting/take no prisoners source for news. And we are the better for it.

Something tells me it basically boils down to this:
a) Publishes something that I agree with = hard-hitting/take no prisoners journalism.
b) Publishes something that I disagree with = pure trash, can't be trusted.

Or it could be watching the video and understanding and agreeing or disagreeing. (Honestly after that I have a hard time believing anyone can truly side against Israel in this instance).
Or not watching it and firing and ad hominen post because you dislike the OP and a certain replier.
So did you watch it Table 5? I don't think so.

Sure, I watched the video, and sure, I agree that the BBC tends to lean left. But I think history has shown that you only support stories that support your own beliefs, so I'm not surprised to see you with this viewpoint. When I see you posting something that is anti-Israel and say that it's a fair viewpoint, maybe I'll be a little less skeptical.

So you are attacking my beliefs. So what do you think of the Flotilla? Was it a set up or not?
After watching the video (S).....

The organizers of the flotilla used civilians and put their lives in danger.
They are the ones who should be on trial, not the commandos.
The soldiers used amazing restraint, going on board with so little deadly firepower and assuming the best from these people was token resistance.
I bet those soldiers could have killed many dozens of people if they had so wished, but they held back and did the best they could in a pretty terrible position. Can't believe they just dropped their boys on the ship like that with the obvious strong opposition on the boat, the commander of this mission was a moron for putting those men on the ship with very little to defend themselves with; and throwing em down to a deck full of pipe/knife wielding group of angry people. What a mess.

They used 500 hundred civilians as hostages. These civilians were the true protesters and were used as fodder. They were hoping the ISDF would simply open up on the whole ship. Instead they came down with powered-upped paintball guns.

Although the BBC may have changed their view (publicly) on the flotilla affair, I doubt many CP posters will.

As an interesting aside, here is a recent study that demonstrates the fact that people will cling desperately to a misconception despite overwhelming evidence that contradicts that belief.
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~bnyhan/nyhan-reifler.pdf
However, individuals who receive unwelcome information may not simply resist challenges to their views. Instead, they may come to support their original opinion even more strongly – what we call a “backfire effect.”
Not saying anybody/either side is necessarily doing that here . . . just an interesting sidebar.

I think this is why the BBC is still a pretty good news organization. Even though they lean a little left, this isn't the first time they have done more investigative work on a certain story and changed their view.

I agree.
I would take their work anyday over the garbage that comes out of North America.
I dont get to watch it much but I do enjoy hearing what Al Jeezera's views are. I spent more time watching them in Paris then any other news source as it was such a unique perspective.

I had to bring this up again, mostly for me since its been weird to experience the opposite of media we have on Israel in North America.
Iceland is pretty pro Palestine, and rather anti Israel. Our foreign minister recently made a scathing speech about human rights abuses by Israel, noting how Icelandic aid group is being refused entry with prosthetic limbs into Gaza.
Whats interesting is the response to the statement, very much supportive by people I hear discuss it and I think it must be a long standing antisemitism in Iceland that is kept strong by the country's small size and relative isolation.

Quote:
"Human rights can not be debated without discussing the plight of the Palestinians and the people of Gaza," Össur said in part, "We now have the results of the experts, mandated by the Human Rights Council, who conclude that Israel broke international law by attacking the flotilla bringing humanitarian assistance to Gaza last spring. Iceland has strongly condemned the raid. It drew strong reaction from the Icelandic society at large."

So if one does not support the State of Israel they automatically have to be anti-Semitic?
