That sounds about right. Usually it will only work on a couple of the 5 speeds or whatever it has.

Awesome if you take a velodrome to work.
Pointless if there are things such as slight inclines, stop signs or traffic lights on the way.
Although the kids with their hair covering their eyes on purpose will think it's cool

I gotcha about the hangin' way off part, I am 6'2-3" with a 36" inseam, so I would just feel weird being so far sideways off the seat, you know? meh maybe it's just something to get used to.

I actually enjoy the overall ride to and from work, I ride from Mcknight Blvd on centre street then move over to 2nd street NW to downtown.
the only "bad" part is going downhill I just cant coast, but do more of a controlled descent and thats where having at least front brakes is helpful. I really like it cause there is no break and it makes for a better workout with my commute.
also more detailed awesomeness from wikipedia
Quote:
In slippery conditions some riders prefer to ride fixed because they believe the transmission provides increased feedback on back tire grip.[19]
Descending any significant gradient is more difficult as the rider must spin the cranks at a very high speed (sometimes at 170 rpm or more), or use the brake(s) to slow down. Some consider that the enforced fast spin when descending increases "souplesse" (a French word meaning suppleness or flexibility, usually referring to the human body), which is said to then improve pedalling performance on any type of bicycle.[20]
Riding fixed is considered by some to encourage a more effective pedaling style, which is claimed translates into greater efficiency and power when used on a bicycle fitted with a freewheel

You guys are crazy talkin about the new escapes, I can't stand all the grey plastic on cars from that era. That "2012" looks like a Tribeca by Subabru
I drive a '07 Fusion
and sometimes I will drive my girlfriends car to work (she rides her bike!)
'10 Escape, 2 1/2 months and 12,000k already thanks to a trip to Peterborough, Ontario and back

I'm with you there. The newer Escapes look great. I like the first gen Fusion as well.

The new Escapes are too boxy looking. The curved body line of the older Escape was better.

I'm not a fan of Ford over doing the chrome in general. They tend to bring over a Euro-design which looks great, and then slowly over the next couple of gens muck it up with chrome, and weird face lifts. I like the Fusion as a car, but the chrome bits are too much.

Just bought this on the weekend and I am picking it up on Tuesday night, thanks to Pylon Not a picture of mine specifically but the color is the same. Mine is missing the running boards on the side.
I'm pretty excited about picking it up though.
