Ford’s popular Escape crossover is set to be replaced in 2012 with the European Kuga. Recent reports suggest, however, that this new model may keep the Escape badge. According to Ward’s Auto, several Ford dealers have commented that it would be a waste to do away with the Escape badge as it has excellent recognition in the market and as the Escape is one of Ford’s top sellers and has even given the Toyota RAV-4 a run for its money.

“I believe the Escape is a great vehicle with a great reputation and that it would be a big mistake to kill the Escape name,” Owen Mossy, general manager of San Diego-based Mossy Ford, told Ward’s.

Ford is likely to listen to its dealers, as a previous decision to drop the Taurus name in favor of the 500 proved disastrous for sales, which bounced back when the name was resurrected. The decision to bring back the Taurus name was that of CEO Alan Mulally, who took the helm at ford in 2006 and said that not using the Taurus name was wasting precious brand equity. We’d also argue that the old Tuarus/500 model had a lot more wrong with it than the name.

I had an '02 before this one, and if anything, I think it might have been lighter. Or at least, it felt like it. I did drag my knee with the '02 (at Race City in Calgary, not on the road), but the weight isn't the problem, it's the ground clearance. I had to hang way the hell off it, full bum off not just a cheek like you would do properly, and I'm 6'1" with long legs. With good riding positioning, you will scrape really hard parts before your knee touches down. In order, from experience: Left: footpeg, the little knob on the sidestand (bend it up with vicegrips), then centrestand. Right: footpeg, then brake lever. No, I don't know how I didn't crash either.

I think I'm just mellower now. I've only touched footpegs down on the '07.

You've caught me. I used to own that beauty,but I could not keep up with keeping it so awesome so I had to sell it off and move my way on to a newer car...

I did own it when I signed up for CP in March '04 (inherited it from my mom in 2000, if you believe that outlandish story), but shortly after joining CP it met it's demise, aka I didn't want to keep spending a thousand bucks on repairs every month. It was an 87 Plymouth Voyager SE with about 200k on it when I sold it and I got $2400. So don't laugh too hard at me, that is quite expensive. Mind you, it was worth probably a grand, but some people are suckers. The interior was imaculate, and considering it was 17+ years old when I sold it, that's something to be proud of and what got us a high price.

I loved that van, and still tell stories about it today with my high school buddies. It ran pretty hot, especially with the rear seats out. Beat many little ricers off those red lights, and that baby was 100% stock. Actually no, it wasn't: I had some petro-point purchased tires on it Those should not have been street legal- in a bad way. Also, a good buddy wrote a song about the van, and his band made reference to it in some of their songs. It was a legend, but all legends must die one day.

Bought my new car 6 months used with 16k on it, figure it was a lease back or a rental in a previous life. Am still driving it today, although I must say the van held up better to my torture tests. This car is in dire need of some serious repairs (tune up stuff, full front brakes, shocks... and it is mysteriously low on oil- not dripping, and no smoke so I'm thinking slow burn). Anyway, enough with the teasing:

Grand Ams have a history of head gasket failures. You might want to get it checked before the engine overheats and warps the heads.
