I haven't gotten any from anyone. I feel left out.

As far as Druh's little gathering goes - I wonder if anyone will even bother to continue it when she's gone? The entire thing exists to feed her ego. Any (minimal) benefit to Calgarians is secondary.

What amount do you have to donate above for it not to be considered private information? The only people demon dialing me is 1-888-472-2222 = SHAW

It's nice that Kent is "the first", but up until yesterday, your guy "never actually followed through" either.

I think that this type of transparency is critical. Couple this with Kents announcement of a lobbyist registry and you have an incredibly open and accountable mayor who will not be bought by developers behind closed doors!

Edit: forgot the link!
And Nenshi has made it clear he'll release his donor list as soon as the campaign is officially a legal campaign.

Would you look at that, look who the first donor was

"Richard Hehr-5000"

Sir Dick Hehr himself.

Quite surprising the amount of donations the guy has already, a good chunk of the big ones are from corps and local businesspeople.

Not really true. Kent said that he would do this from day one, and is making good on that promise. Nenshi has been saying that he would post this on his website each week and to date simply hasn't done so, despite his repeated challenges to the other candidates.

Technically everything over $100 is released to the public in the new year (IIRC its February 1, but don't hold me to that date).

And did he specify when he would start doing that?

I guess he can just wait until February then and disclose with everyone else?

Funny how the Nenshi supporters are the most annoyed by this. I would think that guys like McIver (who is specifically targetted here in the release with his enormous percentage coming from developers) would be the most vulnerable. Frankly, Nenshi and Hehr are on the same page here, doing the same thing...

He's said that he'll start releasing his donor list when the campaign is official (Sept. 18th?). Then updating it. He's being called a liar and a cheat for not following through on a promise.....yet.

Who called him that?

I just said that other candidates haven't followed through, which is entirely the case.

I am right at the threshold, I forgot they release campaign donor names - the less my name is out there the better.

A Jon Lord supporter has been railing on him on Twitter, Lord is also really pissed off at Nenshi, and I'm not really sure why.

Maybe it's because Nenshi had his 'Vote for ME' Booth set up right across the street from Casablanca Video the other day at Marda Gras?

Here is what I can find:

Recognizing that the playing field in the 2010 election is far from level, Naheed will nonetheless impose the following
voluntary guidelines on his own race and encourages all other candidates to do the same:

a. Naheed will not spend more than 65 cents per Calgary resident on this race.
b. Naheed will donate any campaign surplus to charity after the race, win or lose.
c. Naheed will disclose the names of all his donors before the polls open on election day.

65 cents per Calgarian is still a ton of money for a mayoral race. It's easy to promise that you will spend less than 650,000 dollars on a municipal election--in a market this small you hit diminishing returns before you get to half of that.

He's being targeted for this line from his finance "better idea" in particular: "Immediate disclosure of donations. Donations should be disclosed during an election campaign, not after. Candidates should, at a minimum, disclose a full list of donors' names before the polls open."

I think the point people are picking on is the word "Immediate" versus the combination of that word with "during an election campaign"

The campaign isn't officially a legal campaign until the date of declaration in September.

It does seem like a large number until you realize that Alnoor spent over a million of his own money on the last mayoral race. It certainly seems likely that in a race without an incumbent mayor running and 13 candidates that someone will push the million dollar mark in expenses.

Alnoor only spent a million dollars because he put green stop signs on every corner and had to pay out $625,000 in insurance settlements.

Should we refresh the poll some time?
