I thought the difference is that a vegi is a part of a plant or the entire plant itself, where as a fruit is a product of the plant.

Interesting, someone told me once that vegetables never have seeds.

I like my oranges, I have a full glass of Tropicana extra pulp every morning. Apples are not really my thing.

No poll needed. Interior seeds = fruit. The tomatoe is a fruit.
So cucumbers are fruits?

Yep. Gourds (pumpkins, squash, cucumbers, etc.) are fruits. Now you know and knowing is half the battle. Go Joe!

Cucumbers are part of the same family as gourds and melons, which are, botanically, fruit.

EDIT: Too slow.

I burst out laughing in public today. I was on my lunch break at a convenience store. I walked over to the newspaper rack, as I do everyday, to sneak a peak at the front page of that beacon of journalistic might "The Wichita Eagle" and what do I find right above the newspaper name?

Clicky

Just an Orange? HARDLY!

I didn't read the article, I didn't need to. This thread has proven the superiority of the orange. I don't need to hear anything else! The article was a FATA.

But man, did I laugh my ass off when I saw that beautiful orange pictured on the front page of the newspaper!

Apples.

I like Oranges too, but they are far too inconsistent.

I have purchased what appeared to be a great looking/smelling orange on many occasion only to chuck it into the garberator after finding it is dried out inside, has no flavor or the worst: Is growing some mutant insect inside its core.

I will still eat a mediocre apple.

XTC released two albums to try and resolve this debate:

"Apple Venus"

"Oranges & Lemons"

The winner? allmusic.com gave Apple 4 1/2 stars, and 4 stars to Oranges.

APPROXIMATE RHYME DOES NOT COUNT!!!!!!!!

That being said,
some arguments for the apple.

1)Apples can be made into pies, oranges can’t. Even the lowly lemon can be made into one hell of a good pie, the fact that oranges can’t speaks volumes to their lack of greatness.

2)Apples can be used to improve your grades. Has anyone ever seen a smart kid give an orange to a teacher? Hell no, cause those kids aren’t really smart, teachers just really love apples and reward students accordingly.

3)The best argument for Orange that anyone can come up with usually involves mandarin oranges, a product that is only available for like 6 weeks of the year. You can get apples any time you want and that puts them tops in my book.

4)Red delicious. Best fruit ever, nuff said.

5)Apples can make pretty good booze. When was the last time you heard of hard orange juice? Sure orange juice can be used as a mix, but saying that your fruit makes vodka taste better is hardly an argument.

6)Tang. Apple has never been desperate enough to pimp itself out as such a lowly beverage.

7)An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Sure the same could be said about orange flavoured Flintstone vitamins, but remember, those come in grape and the mystery pink flavour, so Orange only gets 1/3 of the credit. Edge Apple.

8)George Bush hates Apples. This alone should lend credence to the Apples are great argument. Other things that Bush hates include Black people and midgets, which are both AOK in my book.

9)Todd Bertuzzi loves Oranges. Other things Todd loves include punching people in the back of the head, getting paid 5.5 Million to score 16 goals, and crying in public.

10)Apples love little kittens. Oranges on the other hand love to eat kittens. In fact I believe their favorite brand is none other than Zidlicky’s Own.

For these reasons and more I beleive it is self evident that Apples are in fact better than Oranges.
Thank you.
