Default U.S. Soldiers Punished For Not Attending Christian Concert

Quote:
"Those of us that chose not to attend (about 80, or a little less that half) were marched back to the company area. At that point the NCO issued us a punishment. We were to be on lock-down in the company (not released from duty), could not go anywhere on post (no PX, no library, etc). We were to go to strictly to the barracks and contact maintenance. If we were caught sitting in our rooms, in our beds, or having/handling electronics (cell phones, laptops, games) and doing anything other than maintenance, we would further have our weekend passes revoked and continue barracks maintenance for the entirety of the weekend. At that point the implied message was clear in my mind 'we gave you a choice to either satisfy us or disappoint us. Since you chose to disappoint us you will now have your freedoms suspended and contact chores while the rest of your buddies are enjoying a concert.'
"At that evening, nine of us chose to pursue an EO complaint. I was surprised to find out that a couple of the most offended soldiers were actually Christian themselves (Catholic). One of them was grown as a child in Cuba and this incident enraged him particularly as it brought memories of oppression."

I am going to call Bovine Scatology on this. This is something that would easily get out into the press if it were true. Especially, considering the many different faiths that the US armed forces has in it. Have a look.

Are you that naive or do you just selectively decide what is believable? In order for something to have happened CBS has to weigh in on it? Is that your approach?

What? That the military provides chaplains of multiple faiths?

What does that have to do with a Major General abusing his authority?

Thanks for providing the same link that I did. AP is one source. Why haven't there been more coverage?

Yes I selective decide what is believable. Such as a story in a military with hundreds of faiths and this sort of thing happening and CNN, CBS, CBC, MSNBC, FOX, etc.... not running with the story. Especially, today with video and messaging technology so readily available.

Thor provided a link to a site that I would not call newsworthy.

Put 2 and 2 together. If you or I was forced to attend this concert would you not scream blue bloody murder? How many news orgs would you call? Now think of 80 guys of various beliefs would do?

And if you red the link that I provided and Ramsay did it says it was a Captain.

So the number of news reports is the final measure of how genuine or important a story is? What a ridiculous conclusion, completely lacking in common sense. Here's the Huffington Post BTW, for anyone who is interested.

Again, lack of common sense. When you are serving in the military under military discipline and under a chain of command in addition to the loyalty and peer pressures and strictures of military protocol in the culture of the U.S. military, it is not the same as a cashier at McDonalds going to the Sun or an office temp calling Channel 5. The first soldier that does not go through proper channels or a proper legal advocacy group (as many did like the MRFF) but rather calls the newspapers will be ostrasized by all his peers and superior officers and has basically just ended his military career.

A Major General has no business promoting a religious event. That's for base Chaplains.

I realize it's not CBS, but here's the local ABC affiliate picking up the story.

Oh, and NPR

Whoops!

It'll be all over talk radio by next week I bet.

Here are your typical BarlowGirl concertgoers. Junior high teenyboppers.

I'm pretty sure young men 18-23 aren't their intended demographic.

Attending a BarlowGirl concert makes Guantanamo Bay look like a day spa.

^^^^Those young ladies are far from teeny. It appears that the holy spirit is a tad fattening. The plus side is it's going to be pretty easy to fullfil their chastity contracts.

Checked out that Huffington Post link. I think the two following comments hit the nail on the head:

"truerunner 2 hours ago (9:00 PM)
I'm a Christian and I gotta say that lately, I've been far more afraid of my religious freedom being tested--not by some "secular left" movement, but by those that (it almost be done tongue-in-cheek) call themselves "followers of Christ." These are scary times.

as promised 2 hours ago (9:16 PM)

People like you and me - we aren't "Christian" enough. Even that word scares me now, so much so that I usually put it in quotation marks.

In the olden days, they would be in a nunnery because they wouldn't be able to find any suitors.
