Default Barack Obama believed to be a Muslim by one fifth of Americans

Quote:
One in five Americans believe Barack Obama is secretly a Muslim and nearly half question his claim to be a Christian, according to a new opinion poll.
The survey by the Washington-based Pew Research Centre reflects a broader questioning among many Americans as to whether Obama is a "real" American – also reflected in the significant number who believe he was not born in the US, a constitutional requirement for presidents.
According to the poll, 18% of Americans say Obama is a Muslim, a steep rise on a year ago when the figure was 11%. The number who said the president is a Christian dropped to 34% from 43% last year.
White House spokesman Bill Burton said: "The president is obviously a Christian. He prays everyday."

1/5 of the population being stupid sounds about right in any country.

IMO, people are saying he is Muslim because they're stupid, and because they're frustrated.

Which would be why the number rose from 11% last year.

People believe what they want to believe in most/many cases. (Perhaps kinda like how I believe the above statement . . . )

Meanwhile, the proportion of red below is kinda . . . surprising?

Frustration definitely helps those numbers, not to mention an economic recession, 2 wars...

But yeah a whole wack of Americans are dumb, sorry but this is in a long line of stupidity thats so uniquely American. My friends in Boston always say the same stuff we do about their own people, they loathe red states for this reason.

Americans care about the stupidest stuff. So what if he's Muslim? Does that make him less fit to rule? As a comparison, does anyone know/care what religion Stephen Harper is?

Absolutely. I imagine if you found a poll asking whether people think his birthplace prevents him from being President, you would find a similar increase in stupidity.

People are getting frustrated and venting for some means believing false and frankly irrelevant rumors.

And 5% probably believe that he's a lizard man, sent to earth to enslave us and ensure a smooth transition to slavery and becoming a menu item at the country kitchen buffet.

Personally, I just believe he's in over his head.

I read that the number was 30+% among people who proclaimed themselves as conservatives.

If by "he" you mean America, then yes.

Again, because Obama is BIG government, and conservatives would be small government, their frustration with his big government policies would be at an all time high.

Its not surprising that a large number of them want to paint Obama in a negative light.

That's crazy!

Since Obama is Muslim, that means Canada and the US are sure to go to war any time now.

I hope they find a way for Schwarzenegger to become president so we can start rumors that he's in fact a scientologist.

Sure you can say that, but I stand by my original sentiment.

A large number of them don't give a damn about big v. small government, they don't even know what it means. They care about what the zealots on the far right tell them to care about and believe.

They also don't particularly care for his skin tone.

The fact that his full name is Barack Hussein Obama probably doesn't help.

Without a time machine that can be used to go back in time and take Arnie's parents to America so he can be born there I can't see him as President. Evar. Americans are far too xenophobic for the native born American citizenship to be ever removed from their constitution.

What do you mean he's not a Muslim? Of course he's Muslim.
