Those were around before the Thanks botton. If anything the Thanks button took away from posts like "Agreed!" or "I agree with everything you said" or "That's funny". The Thanks button can be used for so many things I think it helps take away those posts. If you think getting rid of the Thanks button would make one liners or drive-by posts disappear or even lessen you need to think again.

I think alot of the teenage angst that has occured this summer has a direct correlation to the confessions thread being locked.
Think about it, people can no longer anonymously post their epic stories that they normally would never ever ever post, the outlet is gone....and the ego boost from having people comment on how awesome you are from behind a veil of secrecy (for having a threesome, or hooking up with best friends little sister, or visiting BP's in Edmonton) doesn't help enlarge their online self esteem, causing them to lash out with 100 posts a day, or senseless Sutter bashing, or shoe threads.... etc.....
The confessions thread finally convinced me to stop lurking and start posting..That and the funny picture thread. Kudos to you Stang, IMO you win the best thread of the last 2 years contest that I just created.

I was trying to find a way to show my displeasure at the ridiculous one liner posts, without pulling a one liner or some form of face palm picture out of the hat....(even though I know they are in jest)....I think I found a happy medium.
What was the reason the confessions thread was locked? I quite miss it, there was some very entertaining stories in there.

CP is the oasis in the cesspool of internet message boards.
I have been a member of several forums over the years and CP is the only one that I have stuck with. So many forums are full of junk, immature postings, excessive swearing, threads full of chatting and a complete lack of depth. Obviously it's not perfect, but I think issues like this are pretty minor when compared to other forums.
Frankly I haven't noticed any hostility change. It seems like the same to me. My biggest complaint is when discussions start to get serious people wuss out. Instead of responding to people they cherry pick posts and treat the thread like a dumping ground of information for their side. It completely stifles debate.
