That could be a really good air fare for people looking to catch the Flames in Phoenix over the winter.

Delta and United are having a bit of a fare ware on these 3 cities from Calgary, with dates throughout the entire calendar year (now through July of 2011) showing at this price, including over Christmas holidays, New Year's, etc.

The over Christmas price is especially notable, it's about 35% less than the next cheapest airfare over Christmas for Phoenix/Charlotte, and 45% cheaper for Philadelphia. Could even get to New York for a decent price over New Year's (short drive from Philly)

Airlines are crazy.

YYC to Philadelphia $314 (connecting in Chicago both ways)

YYC to Chicago $745 (same dates)

I will never understand.

Any insight on some 4 Star room deals in Vegas for the end of October thru first week of November?? Or even some flight deals around that time out of Calgary or Kalispell.

A pair of economists has found that the best time for UK travelers to purchase airfare tickets is 8 weeks ahead.

I don't think you can apply one general rule, but have found this to be true for the most part for Canadians as well. A few months ahead seems to be a good sweet spot. It's late enough that the airlines start getting twitchy about not filling enough seats, but early enough that the prices don't start to rise exorbitantly.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010...ight-week-rule

Quote:
It is a question that anyone booking a holiday or business trip will have asked themselves countless times: exactly when is the best time to buy an advance plane ticket to fly at the cheapest price?

Leave it too late and prices shoot up, and there is a danger the flight will be fully booked. But book too early and you run the risk that plans may change and you will be out of pocket if you don't travel or have to alter the flight.

Help is at hand. An economist, Makoto Watanabe, has calculated that the optimum time to buy an airline ticket is eight weeks in advance of flying.

His yet-to-be-published findings also suggests that airline tickets are cheaper when purchased in the afternoons, rather than the mornings, prompting him to speculate that airlines are assuming business travellers will book their tickets at work in the morning on the company account, whereas leisure travellers are more likely to book from home in the afternoon.

September flights to Manchester, UK have dropped - $584 roundtrip after tax

A large number of Air Transat flights to Manchester in September have fallen to $584 roundtrip after tax...

September 3 - 12/24/26
September 5 - 10/12/17/24/26

Use it as a cheap way to get to Europe, and then take a cheap flight from there to wherever you need to go.

September & October flights to London Gatwick have fallen to $629 roundtrip after tax.

Air Transat has dropped the price of their fall flights to London Gatwick down to $629 roundtrip after tax.

A large number of the flights between September 15 and the end of October seem to be cheap.

cmyden, is this normal for so many flights to the UK to be dropping in price at this time of year?

I don't think it's particularly unusual, summer is winding down, kids are going back to school, demand is decreasing, etc. Mid to late September is often a good time to go to Europe, still warm enough, yet usually cheaper and less crowded.

Only the charter companies like Air Transat have been cheap to Europe this year, and only they seem to be the ones really dropping their fall fares.

The major carriers all still seem to be getting away with charging $1300-$1500 roundtrip after tax to the UK and back in September.

Hi cmyden,

The wife and I booked a cruise from Miami in February. We have not booked the flights yet because the prices seem a little high around $1300 range. Is there a better time of year to buy tickets for February? We are looking to fly out of Calgary on Feb 12 and return Feb 21.
Thanks,

I believe flights from Edmonton to Miami are right now in the $370 range? Not sure if you're willing to go to Edmonton to save a few bucks, though.

Hi Jing,

You're looking to go during the busiest travel period of the year, so chances are higher than normal that you might not see a price drop. Of course, anything can happen.

If they were to drop, I usually look for sales to pop up sometime in the season ahead. So for winter, in the fall. A pair of British economists claims their research shows the best time is 8 weeks ahead. The truth is there's no hard or fast rules, just generalities.

Air Canada has a flight to Tokyo for around $1370 roundtrip after tax, Dec 27 to Jan 10. Dec 26-Jan 9 looks to be $1520ish (unless you take the much longer flights).

All Inclusive: Royal Decameron in Puerto Vallarta - $627/person after tax

September 23rd has just dropped to $627/person after tax for 7 nights, and I would say it's currently the best all inclusive deal leaving from Calgary. Everything else in Mexico, Cuba, or the Dominican is around $850-$1000/person.

Can see it at http://www.nolitours.com

It also gets excellent reviews on TripAdvisor...

Another Puerto Vallarta deal...

Puerto Vallarta for Sep long weekend - $365 roundtrip after tax

Sunwing has dropped the price of their charter flight to Puerto Vallarta over the September long weekend to $365 roundtrip after tax.

If you go to http://www.Sunwing.ca and search for Calgary to Puerto Vallarta, September 3-10, you will see a flight for $395.

Then once you enter in the ages of the passengers, and go to the next page, you'll see that it drops even further to $365.

I can vouch for that place. That's a great deal for the Decameron.

Might be some Edmontonians here or Calgarians looking for a last minute getaway...

Edmonton to Las Vegas - $178 roundtrip after tax

Sunwing has drastically dropped the price of their flights to Vegas for the first part of September.

1. Go to http://www.sunwing.ca

2. Select 'flights'

3. Edmonton to Las Vegas. Departing September 2nd, 3-4 days.

Sep 5-9 is $210. Also cheap the following week.
