This is a bigger, more byzantine Arcade Fire . . .There are no wrong turns.
Radiant with apocalyptic tension and grasping to sustain real bonds, The Suburbs extends hungrily outward, recalling the dystopic miasma of William Gibson's sci-fi novels and Sonic Youth's guitar odysseys. Desperate to elude its own corrosive dread, it keeps moving, asking, looking, and making the promise that hope isn't just another spiritual cul-de-sac. After all, you never know who might be coming in the next car.
I've been underwhelmed by the tracks I've already heard, but I'm always skeptical of Arcade Fire's stuff through the first few listens. They'll learn me in the end, I'm sure.

The band's latest album speaks to the experience of growing up American with Mexican roots. Inspired by the blues, rock 'n' roll and the American Southwest, David Hidalgo and Louie Perez are an adventurous songwriting team. Los Lobos' ability to fuse styles and translate vivid stories on Tin Can Trust can only come from playing for more than 30 years together.

I'd like to see seperate lists for rock and hip hop. Too many music fans don't overlap enough for a combined list to be useful IMO.
The #1 album reminded me why I don't subscribe to SPIN anymore.
I have 15 of the 125.

Not to be competitive, just curious, but I counted about 55 of those records. More, if you count compilations that include songs from other albums. I have a problem. I don't have many of the hip-hop records, maybe a half-dozen.

Well, I posted how many I had in the hope that you and others would do the same. No competition worries.
I don't have any of the hip-hop records...and they account for nearly half I would guess.

I have about 21 of those albums, but I should have at listened to at least 30-40 of them. Oddly enough, even though I consider myself more of a rock guy, I own more hip-hop records off that list than rock records. Agree with DFF on the #1 album, but then I don't really like any U2 albums outside of "War."
Street Sweeper Social Club released a new EP: The Ghetto Blaster - downloading as I type this. If you like RATM - you will probably enjoy this - Boots is top notch!
"Tom Morello and Boots Riley joined forces to form Street Sweeper Social Club in 2009. Following the group's critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album, SSSC will release the Ghetto Blaster EP. The new release features seven new recordings."
Soundgarden released a new song today called Black Rain. It's up on Itunes and pretty sweet. Chris Cornell has not missed a beat, sounds exactly like he did in the 90's. Also, sounds like their album is coming out sept 28th.

Apparently its not a new song, its just previously unreleased. It was recorded back in the Badmotorfinger days, which would explain why it kicks ass. I can't imagine them coming up with anything this good now. Hope I'm wrong. I expect their first real new song to be really commercial sounding, as per industry standards.
And its called Black Rain. Really good song though. Its funny and kind of sad that an unreleased track from 20 years ago puts new stuff on mainstream rock radio today to shame, by a wide margin.

Some of the vocals on Black Rain are from recent recordings.
I think that Kim Thayil's presence alone will keep your nightmare from coming true, but I just hope we get the chance to find out.

Really? IMO, Soundgarden was the most-overrated band of the 1990s.
