They were going to cut our police force for that $.17 cents/Albertan.

True, but didn't some of those recent "leaked" documents show that the Pakistan government has been making secret deals with the Taliban, and the Taliban are killing Canadians regularly.

I don't want innocent people in Pakistan to suffer, but I don't trust their government either. Some military generals are likely to see it as money to them and take it as a bonus.

Perception is everything. Charity from private citizens is 100% voluntary. That is not going to change.

$1.17 to try and help people in a region dominated by terrorism.

If only the US had done the same in Afghanistan circa 1989.

We're talking government provided aid. Which has been a complete joke since the disaster.

I would say that in this case, the amount of government aid seems to reflect the public attitude. I'm not saying its right, but we do elect these folks.

It's all lip service anyway.

How much of the pledge money did Haitians actually get? I've heard very little of what was promised actually materialized so far.

How much have Pakistani Canadians donated? There's apparently 300,000 living here... Apparently not much, I wonder why?

One media observor said blamed Pakistan's "Image Deficit" for the lack of foreign help.

Separate Pakistani government from the poor random men, women, and children actually suffering from these floods. They deserve help, and $500,000, while a nice gesture, in the end, likely won't be able to do much, anyway.

My girlfriend's Pakistani, but thankfully most of her family is further south, with the majority in and around Karachi.

Why do you perpetuate lies when you know the truth? Can you back up your claims?

Guess I got snopesed. They came out with that in 2008, I had heard about the fabrication long before that. Doesn't change the fact if there was a flood in Canada no one would be dancing in the streets.

Fair enough. I'll agree with you that nobody dances in the streets to celebrate natural disasters. They did however dance in the streets in the Palestinian territory to celebrate a mass murder perpetrated against innocent people in the United States. Actually I never knew that until it was brought up tonight. Thanks.

Most 'ignerent' people in North American lump Pakistanis and Indians as Middle Eastern. They'd likely sheet a brick if you told them they were asian.

Yeah...but close enough.

From Wikipedia:

The Middle East (or, formerly more common, the Near East)[1] is a region that encompasses southwestern Asia and Egypt. In some contexts, the term has recently been expanded in usage to sometimes include Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Caucasus and Central Asia, and North Africa. It's often used as a synonym for Near East, in opposition to Far East. The corresponding adjective is Middle-Eastern and the derived noun is Middle-Easterner.
